I want to install HID upgrade headlights in my 06 KJ. a few quick questions come to mind, and they all center around DRL. i know the DRL power will make the HID's flicker and burn out ( not to mention annoying to any on coming traffic) but if i remove the DRL relay, i have no lights during the day, and the high beams wont work. is there any way to bypass the DRL relay with out removing it, and have low beams on instead of DRL without using the switch ( i know i'll come out to a dead battery if i go that route)

has anyone else had this issue with HID's or did i get a crappy set from ebay?

Thanks in advance

Without projectors your HID's are going to throw light all over the place, blinding oncoming traffic. Typically HID's and DRL's dont' work well which is why many people in Canada stay away from them. 99.9% of HID kids are Chinese with a few Japanese kits on the market (Volt, etc). The quality of the kit likely has nothing to do with how they will work with the DRL's. It's a bad idea altogether...You may want to look into HID driving lights if you need the extra light. If it's just for looks, I don't think it's worth fighting with.

I'll echo the advice already given.

First you can't remove the Daytime Running Light feature in Canada without voiding the vehicle inspection.

Second you can't simply place HID lamps in a stock headlight. The focal point for the source of the light is different. What you're thinking about is likely replacing the entire light assembly aren't you?

I suggest that if you want more light on the road that you simply mount an extra pair of driving lamps on the bumper, but don't go overboard. I've seen people go "hog wild" and add as many as four 100W lamps on a roof rack but your electrical system simply can't handle that much.

x2 on the aux lighting. i have a set of Hella 500s 55W mounting to my brush guard and they really help out a lot with lighting.
Also not a huge improvement but it did help was a set of the sylvania "white" bulbs, they are a pretty good improvement over the stock bulbs i had. :)

I had four Hella 500's on my xterra. 2 driving and 2 fog. Those worked well and were cheap. There's also an HID kit for them.

i just installed a set of HIDs... they are an improvement for sure. i had originally put in the sylvania 9007 SilverStar Ultra's... i was not impressed. my only regret with the HIDs is that i didn't get BI-XENONs.

my hids are pretty focused

So are mine. I've seen a KJ with HIDs and there was very little glare. As a matter of fact there may not have been that much more glare than normal, it was just *whiter* glare. :p

I have a HID kit in my WK and I highly recommend them, but the issue is.... get a quality kit. Nothing from eBay. I believe I got ripped off because in the year or so I've had the kit, I've had a bulb and a ballast go out on me. I like the lifetime warranty but using it is annoying.

yea my pops wants to get hids on his wk. i dont get anything offa flea bay. i got alot of accessories shops around me. but i dont have a lifetime warranty. the shop i went to only gave me a six month warranty since i installed them myself. if i wouldve let them install it i wouldve had a year warranty but i also wouldve had to pay an extra $30. the HIDs were expensive already at $120.

Although I would like to have a H.I.D. set up, a quality kit is exspensive!
I just added extra relays and installed 100/80 watt 9007 bulbs.
They work well with day time running lights, however, we always drive
with the headlights on so that the tail lights are illuminated as well.
