so I have been planning to put a hitch on the wife's KJ to be able to use a hitch haul cargo carrier to help with gear and luggage on our trips.

however; I am wondering if this is doable or not with the rear spare.

has anyone run a cargo carrier in the hitch with the spare tire not interfering?

thanks!

I have an 06 and use a hitch carrier all the time, no problems with it. Adds some good exterior cargo space since i miss my ford pick up

Ryan uses a hitch carrier and roof top basket & lock box with OME heavy duty springs!
As you can see if you stack stuff up like cooler shown, it has 2be removed to open gate.

On My rig I installed a Rola basket, and stuff can go up there.

Tim or Ryan, would either of you happen to have a side view of the hitch carrier? Just curious if there is a hitch extender helping with spare tire clearance or is the carrier's tongue extra long so the spare isn't over part of the carrier.

By the way...Ryan, your Libby is loaded! :party52:

In the picture that Tim posted, Jen and I didn't use a tongue extension...
We do have one with a step built into it, but haven't used it yet!
The carrier sits clear of the spare tire so you can load it up with lots of crap!
But you have to remove it to open the rear gate.
I don't have any side view shots here on our home computer...
But my wife has them on her work 'puter so tomorrow I'll get those and find you one!
I'm about to modify the cargo carrier so that it sits up right behind the spare tire so we can use it off road for better clearance.

Thanks guys!

I have a hitch carrier in the storage shed that I haven't used in a while - time to break it out for the summer excursions. No extenders necessary! :smokin:
