If I can get this thing to put together I think I'll love it!

Hello,

I have been working on a rebuild for my 2005 CRD for 4 months now. The folks at idparts.com have been awesome, but I have run into a snag looking for some new balance shaft assembly dowels that were damaged in the teardown. part # 5093899AA . Any help locating a set of 4 would be amazing!

McMaster Carr should have dowel pins, metric and others. Should be a standard piece of hardware.

Thanks turblediesel !,

McMaster car has alignment pins, but only straight or tapered. None that are mostly straight with a slight taper on the end, which is what the picture look like. And none with internal thread in one end to extract. . I found a place in France that has the part (see picture) Any more thoughts?

I hate to think what postage and tax would be but if you are stuck they should have them.

The chamfered end is a few moments on a grinder but the extraction threads are unique.

There might be a few CRD owners on lostjeeps with some destroyed engines laying around they could pick some from.

I would suggest getting something close and using a grinder to get the shape you need. You can also have the milled up if you have any good dowls left. I looked up the part in the server and none available in any of the dealers or warehouses.

I doubt that engine was commissioned by "Jeep", more likely it was the cheapest one they could get off the shelf, so the trick might be to find out what it was from - & go to their dealers/parts specialists. Just another thought.

It's a VM diesel, it was (is?) Part of the company.

Just because it's Italian doesn't, necessarily, mean it belongs to Fiat, which, afaik, use their own diesels in their self-badged vehicles. But, in any event, back when the decision was made to take a chance on another VM engine, the incestuous motor manufacturer family looked very different.
