Hello - I own a 2003 Jeep Liberty Ltd and during this past summer, my speakers stopped working at the same time my air conditioning stopped while driving from Philadelphia to Chicago.

I changed the blower motor resistor (and the AC came back...I know, that does not make sense, but it worked)..the odd thing is the radio display works (meaning I am able to see the radio station and even the songs that are played, CD changes, tape runs)...but no sound comes from the speakers

The front passenger speaker had been crackling (sounds like it was blown) before I drove out.

I am not sure if I need to change the amplifier choke relay or do I need new speakers or do I need a new head unit

Note all the speakers and radio are original stock

Any help would be appreciated...getting boring driving to work..thanks!!!

I bet the head unit is shot. If all the speakers stopped at the same time it sounds to me like the head unit.

I just checked the wiring diagrams for the factory speakers/radio and the only thing that all the speakers have in common is the head unit. Everything goes through different body juctions so it's not like you accidently kocked a juction loose and that's why the radio isn't working...

Thanks for your reply....I do have the premium stock CD/radio...I had a wiring schematic (ref# 168319) and it looked like the choke amplifer relay hits the front speakers and then from speakers connected to rear speakers.

Could changing the choke amplifer relay do it?...I do hear it click when I turn on/off the radio, so not sure if that is the fix.

The only thing that seems odd, is that the radio works (CD spins, cassette runs, and even the radio displays that changes in radio stations, and even the song & artist that station is playing.....but no sound

Given this, could the head unit still be the problem given comments above?

Really appreciate your help...thanks for your comment

Hello and sorry for delay in reply....the problem was a bad head unit (sort of)....I ended up getting a new stereo (e-bay) and after replacing it only the volume, treble, bass, and fade dials worked....none of the push buttons on the radio (stations, mode, seek) work.....oddly enough, I can get these to work only through the steering wheel controls...any suggestions?...code locks,..etc...any help would be great...thanks again
