To all those JK owners out there.

I'm seriously thinking about trading my 2003 KJ in for a 2010 JK. I'm trying to get an idea of what I should pay. If you have a JK, can you please give me an idea of what you bought it for? Could you post what trim level you have, what the sticker price was and what you paid for it.

Over on the JK-forum.com it looks like the general consensus is $5000 below sticker price regardless of trim level.

What I have is in my sig below. What I paid is irrelevant, each deal is different depending on how well of a negotiator you are, your credit score etc. The best time to buy is the last day or two of the month when the sharks are at their hungriest.

You really need to do your own research. Visit a site like edmunds.com to see what they are selling for in your area. Rather than trying to answer all your questions, go to the Jeep website for all the models, options and cash incentives, but it really sounds like you need to visit a dealership and do some window shopping to see things up front and personal. You may also want to find a website or two that gives the ins and outs of buying a vehicle so you get what you want at the best price.

Some JK advice...

- stay away from any JK that has 3.21 gears, especially if you ever plan on larger tires.

- the 6-speed is junk, go with the automatic

I have access to a 07 JK Sahara that I drive at times. I have driven it on and off road. It was ordered with dana 44 and 4:11 gearing from the factory in 07. Has A/T. That is the minimum gearing you would want I think. I agree with AZKJ on the gearing.

As far as pricing goes you will have to check your area I think. If you can't get a deal in Ticonderoga you might have to try looking in Glens Falls or Saratoga.

I'm in Texas, obviously the markets are going to be different....but, I JUST traded my 08KK in on an 08JK...I've got the Wrangler X edition. It only has 20K miles on it so it's barely broken in. I paid $18K for it. It is definately a transition, but I'm stoked about getting started on the mods...so much potential. I think that's what drove me away from the KK. Not much out there for it even after two years. Good luck....keep us posted!!

I'll have to agree with the others. Ever region and every week is gonna be different. My feeling is if you can get one for under sticker jump on it.
You'll love the JK... Soooo many possibilities..

All good advise with the exception of the ****** choice. In my opinion, as well as many others, the auto is junk.
If you go with the 6 speed you can get more power to the ground and you can get away with bigger tires without throwing AS much gearing into it. With that said, if you do a lot of crawling and you are not comfortable with a manual, then by all means, go with the auto.

I've been doing a TON of reading on the new JK's. I even signed up for www.JK-Forum.com so I could ask questions and get opinons.

The general concensus is that the 3.21's SUX, but opinions are divided on the transmission. Some people swear by the manual, and while others swear by automatic.

My mind is pretty made up on that choice though. I'm looking at the automatic, simply because I launch a boat by myself and I don't want to dump the vehicle in the lake should the e-brake not hold. I'm not sure how it is on the JK, but the e-brake on the KJ *****!

Some people say they gotten their new JK for $3000-5000 below sticker price, but I'm not sure I believe it. One dealer I talked to would only knock off $750, while another would knock off $1000. I'm currently working with a dealer to get me into the JK I want, at a price I can afford. We'll see if it happens.

Ti is beautiful. I lived there. (well, Putnam Station address-population 50...including the squirrels....haha) Absolutely beautiful mountains, lakes, no jobs....haha You are lucky to be able to live there. Problem is, you have to drive 100 miles to find a decent store or buy anything. That aside, I would live there if I could.

Driving to Plattsburgh to get a jeep huh. Don't trip or your head will be in Canada and your feet in NY.....:D

yes you can get more power to the wheels ,direct link when in gear no give
but a cost of or the need for gearing or power NEITHER of which the JK has enough of
The 2 door with an auto and 4.10's can barely pull 33's on road
the rubi does better off road thanks to the 4 to 1 but you can not run 35's on road with 4.10's so pointless

So with both having 4.10 gearing ( this is assuming both have the same gear ratio ) you will get more power to the ground with the 6 speed.
My 6 speed pulls just fine (it's a 2 door), it's more capable than any TJ, with all things being equal.
Anyway, that's my take on it. It is a forum, we all have different opinions, but some are FACTS.

stop on a 30* or more hill with a stick and go up?
same hill with an auto?
now both in a JK on 33's the auto will make it the stick will not
now under a TJ?

why are you lying to them? a 2 door with 3.73's is fine with 33's.
4.10's are needed for 35's.

the only fact is the 6 speed has been recalled in the jk for a reason. the auto is better. atleast for right now

If the stick will not make it, how do you explain the fact that I can and have seen many others do it? Some straight up, others after having stopped on said "very steep" hill.
How do you explain the fact that I have seen TJ's not make it through a place a JK just did?
How do you explain the fact that I've seen a TJ just make it through a place where a JK didn't? It all boils down to the DRIVER.
4.0 and 3.8, two totally different beasts. you have to know where the sweet spot is in either of them to operate it correctly. In certain situations your E-brake is your best friend if you don't have a hand throttle.
Stick all the way, it makes you a more connected and capable driver, if not it will get exspensive quick.

I believe the auto has been recalled for some malfunctioning overheating light of some sorts. I am not aware of one for the 6 speed.
I know there are several TSB's on both transmissions though. If you have found a recall on the 6 speed could you post a link to it?
My 6 speed has been flawless and I wouldn't change a thing, but like most things in life, it is always a matter of personal preference.

all jk's were recalled for that.
when off road the oil temp can exceed safe levels and they are installing a HOT OIL light

Autos - ********. If they were that much better, stronger and efficient, they would be in OTR trucks. With modern computer controls, they are moving that way...but they are not there. The fastest cars in the world...endurance racers...OTR's...all rely on sticks.

The lower 1st gear of the 6spd gives you more oomph off of the line in every situation where tire height and gear ratio are the same. You do not waste RPM to overcome stall speed and build heat to lock up the viscous convertor. you do not have nearly the parasitic loss as a direct-drive.
It is a simple matter of mathmatics. They will lie about "2.5 multiple of tq" with an auto but that is a proven lie: An auto KJ would be putting 575 ft/lbs down if that were the truth, and the D30a would last about...no time. Check ANY of the dozens of crawl-ratio calculators for non-biased troof.

Yes, shock loads can increase for people who cannot drive. But the inability to drive a stick is no reason to bash them.

Benny, you are arguing with a guy who drives a jetta station wagon and not a KJ at all.... tiquan = :homoswitch: He cracks on the KJ, doesn't own one, but is here trolling away...

Only the autos were recalled for that. 6-speeds don't have that problem.

2. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Recall Number: 09V436000
Dates Manufactured: Jun 2006 to Jul 2008
Number of Vehicles Affected: 161450
Date Owners Notified On: N/A

Vehicle: 2008 Jeep Wrangler
Defect Description:
CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2008 JEEP WRANGLER MANUFACTURE BETWEEN JUNE 2006 THROUGH JULY 2008 PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THESE VEHICLES WERE NOT EQUIPPED WITH A TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE WARNING SYSTEM.

Consequence of Defect:
FLUID COULD BOIL OVER AND MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH A HOT ENGINE OR EXHAUST COMPONENT AND CAUSE A FIRE.

Corrective Action:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND INSTALL A "HOTOIL" MESSAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND A CHIME INDICATING AN ELEVATED TRANSMISSION FLUID CONDITION. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-835-1403.
