You've got to start somewhere so i'm going to look stupid asking some of these questions, but that's how you learn. I've got a pretty much stock 2003 Liberty, I've never joined a chat group, SOOO, what DO the initials stand for? I would like someday to lift my Jeep and have been reading some of the posts about that, lot's of good info. Thanks

Jeep alocate a 2 lettered signature to all their models. The Liberty is a KJ.

Other common one you'll see are:

XJ = Cherokee

XK = Commander

ZJ = mark 1 Grand Cherokee

WJ = mark 2 Grand Cherokee

WK = new Grand Cherokee

JK, TJ, YJ and CJ = various Wranglers

CRD stands for common rail diesel.

Welcome aboard. You'll love the Jeep, but you'll be poor as heck!

No such thing as a stupid question around here!

and (welcome) to the site.

If you're interested in lifting it, you'll probably find alot more over on L.O.S.T....which is www.lostkjs.com

Congrats on the Jeep...2003 is a GREAT year in my opinion. \:D/

Ohh and CRD stands for Common Rail Diesel....it's the name of the diesel engine that was used in the american KJ's in 2005 and 2006.

I am quite envious of the height of the '02s. However, it's front tilt is a lot more prominent.

I also thought the height of those made them look pretty bad ass (BA). However, I always though 04s are the best of the bunch, when they are paired with a set of foglights and good set of tires, they look great. I still cannot get used to the foglights of 05+, the fogs on -04 are almost as bright as the headlamps and look great. But I like 05+ side turn signal thingy, wish we had that.

KJ = Killer Jeep

I actually thought KJ might mean killer jeep, that's why I finally joined in and asked, lol. Today I tackle the job of changing the rear brake pads and rotors, never did it before on any vehicle but it doesn't look too hard. If I need 2 ask a question, is it ok to ask here or should i go to a different area? I didn't see anything on brakes in the how-to section. Chilton wants $$ to see anything on thier site. Got my anti-sieze, brake clean, should be ok but if anybody has any tips or whatever, I'm open to hearing them. One auto parts guy told me to crack open the bleeder just a little when moving the calipers apart to let any junk bleed out instead of going up the brake lines, another guy said their dealer never does that. Hmm

You definately wanna take the cap off the brake fluid resivoir...and make sure you put an old rag on top of it...one that you dont care about....sometimes when you move the calipers back and forth it will push some of the brake fluid up through the lines...and you'll want it to come out the top, rather than putting to much stress on the lines. And that stuff will eat through paint like nobody's business (what the rag is for).

I've done this on all my vehicles and sometimes you'll get some to come out, sometimes you dont. When you are done and you've got the brakes installed and broken in, double check the fluid level. If you get any air in the lines you'll look like you have alot when you really dont...and pumping/breaking in the brakes will let that air out.

And if you wanna post any questions go right ahead...i dont think brakes have been covered much as people havent really had to replace them that much. Just make sure you're posting in the general discussions area.

Thanks for the reply Tim, I heard about taking the resiviour cap off, but i also heard to leave it on and let any run off come out the slightly opened bleeder valve. Haynes Manual says nothing about opening bleeder, so I don't think I'll do it. I have a friend who works at a car dealership, he said to make sure I use threadlock on any bolts I remove and to make sure I torque them to spec. Sounds logical.
