ok, here is a "dumb" question for anyone.....would i be able to purchase the remote, and not have the key included or chipped, the reason for this is I like the remote separate from the key, not as bulky either....just getting everyone's input is all....

Your key/fob is different from the older style seperate ones.
Those of you with the earlier "FOB" style systems have it made. A new fob for $20.00, get an extra key cut whenever you need... Life must be good.
My '06 has the "FOB" incorperated as the top part of the key. This is very handy, except that replacing the "Key" requires the new comntrol portion as well (I would guess - I'm not breaking it open to see).
Not only does it function as a keyless entry system, but as an anti-theft as well. These are "smart" keys in that when you turn on the ignition, the CPU checks the key to see that it has been programed for your vehicle. Even if the key cut is identicle, turns in the ignition and unlocks the wheel, the vehicle will not start unless the programmed key code matches. I had mine "flip-out" one time due to a loose battery terminal. Had to pull the battery cable and let the system drain down in order for the CPU to reset and reconize the key code again.
Gone are the good old days..... Loose your key - no problem. A coathanger and you were in, pop the connector off the back of the ignition switch (accesable from under the dash) jumper the right pair of connections, a quick short to the "start" terminal, and away you went to buy a new lock and key assembly for $10.00 at any parts store. No steering-wheel locks to overcome here. (Do I date myself?
