What can I run without rubbing? With a flattened pinch weld?
245-70-16s if stock suspension , the wider Moabs will cause you some issues any bigger and not lifted
Some run that size with Moabs but only tires I like to run on those wheels are 8 inch wide or wider, but then you need a lift

I'll follow this up, Tom, I have a good stock suspension and found a local guy selling 4ea 5x4.5 16" Moabs. Would those work on my Liberty? wheels and backspacing are new to me.

Thank you!

(04 Limited, running 235-70-16s)

They will not work, send them to me right away !!!!!!!!!!!!!

;) no they will work , bolt pattern wise etc, just tire size comes into play big time unlifted since they are 8 inches wide

Ok I picked up a set of 245/70/r16's. Less than 1,000 miles on them. Guy's Grand Cherokee bit the dust right after he got them. Well they go on tomorrow.

Good luck then
But I would rather have a tire with the same tread width of the wheel is wide at least
you will be pulling the sidewalls out at least an inch or more on each side
Of course I was only managing and selling tires for 13 years
some people do it, but if tire pressure drops any, beads can pop off, you can not lower air pressure if off road etc

Whoa Tom it was just a straight foreward question. The 245'S are wider than the 225'S.

The 245'S look great on the MOAB'S thanks 10 to 20 and thanks Tommudd. My wife said she liked the ride. Clearance on the pinch well. The only time I really go off road is finding a surf spot on a sandy beach and mabye a dune crossing. The 245/70/r16 seems to be a better look and a better fit.

Yes they did come with 245-75-16 Goodyear MTRs

REASON for that was they wanted to advertise an 8 inch wide wheel but with a 31 inch tall tire, only one available in a good tread design from Goodyear was the 245-75-16s so they HAD to use it
Straight from one of the designers mouth told to me

Plus you are comparing apples to oranges
the 245-75-16s that Jeep used on the 8 inch Moabs had way stronger sidewalls which made them ok to run
Important things to consider although most do not

That first year was 1.5 inches taller too. Story was the test driver for one of the trades rolled one.
