Do the replacements have grease nipples? If so, give em a shot of grease. Not too much to pop the protective rubber bootie. It could be a BJ squeak, upper strutmount squeak, control arm, or swaybar bushings....any of these rubber parts will make a noise. There is a rubber isolator under the front strut spring .....right?

The liberty doesnt have, 'nipples'.. :D

If you replace them with moogs they will.

All '02-'05 KJ's and some '06 KJ's are covered under a lifetime LBJ recall, sometime in '06 and for '07 KJ's they put the better LBJ's in and aren't covered, they may have extended the recall to all '06's and '07's but not sure.

do you know the bulliten number for the recall on the early 06's? is there a way i could tell if mine have been replaced? ( not a problem now but id like to knwo for later)

Not off hand,I can't seem to find the last recall letter that Jeep sent to me,they have been sending a recall notice to me about every 6 months for the last 3 years or so and get hounded everytime I pick parts up at a dealership,I just tell them they can keep there crappy balljoints.

I had to find out about the first recall from a 4Wheeler magizine while I was in Iraq, the second recall came out shortly after I got back from Afganistan and said screw it and put the MOOG's in,8000 miles and the "new" style LBJ's the dealer installed where toast.

Geeky....there is a way you can tell if there is an open recall or not. Go on the Mopar Jeep site and you will see a section for owners and a warrenty or recall option. You can click on it and put in the last 8 # of your vin#. It will tell you. .......or next time you stop at the dealer you could ask.

Dave

P S ....The recall is F23

Blake, are you sure about that lifetime warranty on that recall? How can I prove this to them. They will just say "nah" and charge me.. Can I call Chrysler and ask them about this? I wonder..

After watching the video, I would definitely say lower ball joint. Maybe strut mount. I didn't see the video the first time I read your post.

In the video just before you hit full lock, thats the sound that makes me think the ball-joint is either dry of lube, or is worn. Either way, the ball-joint will need to be replaced.

Is there anyway I can check for how bad it is? I looked at the joint, but it just sits there, looking right back at me.

According to chrysler customer service, if I take it to the dealer, and if it is in fact lower ball joints that went bad again, and if dealer charges me for it, I can call back Chrysler and have them try to resolve the issue with the dealer.. They gave me a ref #.

To check the joints, jack the Jeep up from the frame so that the wheel droops. Take a long handle(I used lug wrench) and put it under the tire, then pull up. Have someone watch the lower joints for play(Or use vid camera).

I cannot find a link that says that Hyedipin. Seems like chrysler took care of you though. :)

Thanks, I saw that link, there is no way I can pull my jeep apart (then put it back) to check it. I think the best way is I jack it up this weekend. I hope the one that came with jeep still works....

I would think as long as the wheel is off the ground you should be able to see play in the joint. The shock will bottom out and keep the spring from putting any pressure on anything.

Yes JJ , thats true. Jacking up the LCA makes the job easier. I checked alot of balljoints in my day, and you need the weight off of the balljoint. So you need to compress the sring to get the joint unloaded. If you really get technical, you would need to see it under driving load(tire pressures and such) to get a true picture of it.
Also when checking, you should also rock the wheel at the top and bottom, to see if there is any side play too. This is generally where you see if the upper balljoints are any good.:)

I went down there while wheels are on the ground, and asked my wife to move wheel side by side, it is cracking and clicking like a rusty door hinge. I put my hand on lower arm, upper arm, disk brakes and finally the LBJ to feel where the vibration is coming from, it does feel like it is coming from LBJ. To someone like me who doesn't have much knowledge on these things, it feels like it is just rusted and just lack of grease/oil. As if I could dump a load of machine oil it will go away.

I was just thinking if I could try to lift it with the stock KJ jack. Although you mentioned you wouldn't do that. I don't think it would slip out of there? Maybe I can buy a jackstand at walmart http://www.diresearch.com/4x4/Temp/MVI_0849.AVI

OK. My camera can keep an eye. I think there is a little ledge under the LCA which can slip between the jack's lifting point and secure tightly right there. `
