My 2002 Export 2.5L CRD keeps peeing oil out onto the ground....it definitely would appear to be a leaking Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal PN:05066756AA...this from the 2003 KJ documentation....this being a 2.8L I hope the PN is correct for my 2002 2.5 CRD!

A year ago I had the local Jeep Dealers replace the Cambelt, the Serpentine belt and every relevant Pully and Tensioner and all was well.

Now the Dealers state that they no longer support the KJs...no spares guaranteed and no Workshop availability at all!

So I need to find this Oil Seal in the USA but at this stage I cannot find a Site that will ship parts to South Africa and there are very few Breaker Yards nearby!

A European Supplier may be better as they did have the 2.5L Fixed Turbo CRD KJ available so I would be sure I am getting the correct part.

I would appreciate if anybody can direct me to a USA... or European.. supplier of CRD KJ parts that will ship to SA!

At the moment I have fitted a square plastic container underneath where the Clutch Bellhousing joins onto the rear end of the motor to catch the dripping oil drops.... helps but needs some improvements to be made before there are complaints from the Management of this Complex that I am living in!

Thanks Guys!

I'd be surprised if the petrol has the same seal as the CRD.
The VM diesel guy I posted above ships to Australia, the Jeep forum there often mentions him.

Edit! Just re read your comments, you were giving the date not 2.4!! Yes your right the 2.5 & 2.8 are the same block. Oops!!

Thanks for the link but I tried searching on the 2003 Liberty and I do not see any parts for the CRD!
The US only got the 2.8 version of the CRD from 2005-2006.

There are differences between the 2.5 and 2.8 mostly relating to the turbo systems and pollution controls. Rear main seals should be the same.

My rusty memory thinks there might be two rear main seals on the CRDs.

Thanks for the replies!
At this stage I have made a temporary fix to stop the leak....I have strapped two rectangular plastic boxes under the leak...a small one and a larger one to catch any overflow.

Works OK but I have to take it easy over any bumps and need to keep an eye on the oil levels in the plastic boxes and empty them in time!;)

I have been offered peanuts by two Breaker yards for my Jeep so am considering my options...the fact that the Jeep Agents here in SA are no longer supporting the KJs is a major concern!

To be honest I haven't been to the Jeep dealer here since i called them and had stupid prices quoted for bearings, all the parts are available online so I'm not too worried. You must be able to mail order the bits? Have you tried the links above? The VM is also really common in China apparently so another potential parts source.
There are lots on Ebay, might be worth messaging to see if they will ship to you?
You must be registered for see images attach

I am conversing with the VM Motori group in the UK...just want them to be sure that we are talking about the 2.5L CRD with twin overhead Camshafts as I believe that they may have a 2.5L single overhead Camshaft motor for Marine use!

How are these parts actually replaced...motor removed or can one just remove the gearbox/clutch and access this area through that route?

I will not be doing the labour myself....too old for that ;) ...but am hoping that some local Mechanics will be able to do this!

Tell them it's the R 425 DOHC, they are a common engine here, cars, boats, vans and industrial.

Can't say what's involved as I've never done one on a jeep but the VM diesel specialist your talking to rebuilds them so should be able to advise.

Hi, I've replaced my rear oil seal and the rear thrust bearing (recommended because it's right there when it's stripped). It's a bit of a scrabble without a lift , basically it's the same as a transmission removal to just get it out of the way and then a bunch of bolts. I got the seal and bearing here :
My jeep had around 230k at the time and was dripping an embarrassing amount of oil over everyone's driveways lol. After the change it took a couple of weeks to settle in and completely stop any leakage. Hoping for 400k.

Hoping for 400k.
The VM 425 and VM428 lumps were fitted to the FX4 London Taxis, replacing the Nissan 2.7. The service schedule goes up to 400k miles and the average life span is 440k miles before recon. Service intervals are every 10k which in taxi mileage is about 5 weeks.

They are good engines, more like an industrial unit than a car one.
