New KK owner with questions

Hello all.. new KK owner here.

With my recent purchase, I have noticed the engine bay gets quite hot after some driving. Even the fenders are very hot to touch.
The cooling system seems tip top and the oil is clean.. so I decided to check the stock airbox and filter.

That's when I noticed the induction pipe from the box appears to be at a dead end?
After removing the filter, I decided to try my leaf blower in this pipe to see if I could trace where the air could be inducted to the airbox with no luck.

Am I missing something here?

Should I be looking into removing the stock set up for an after market intake?

It's fine as is, air enters from a downward slot at pipe end, I just checked mine with a bright light
Thanks for the info mate.

Have you any ideas where I should be looking with the heat issues in the engine bay? Or is this relatively normal for the KK?

All engines sit at around 90°C is the temperature gauge sitting where it should be?

Yea, the temp gauge is always at 11:55.

So I guess it's normal for the fenders to be too hot to touch after driving?

Possibly, depending on how hot the surrounding temperature is, where I am right now everything is cold and wet!

It's summer here in Queensland Australia. A consistent top of around 30 degrees.. or 86 Fahrenheit.

I guess I'm just a little over protective of the new ride..

They tend to run hot and overheat with very little strain, such as driving up a mountain in elevation. I added a mechanical fan and clutch to mine and a new grille, which required cutting out the openings. I was thinking about louvers, but people have mentioned rainwater pooling in the spark plug wells. I also noticed that the electrical fan doesn't kick in unless the AC is on, but I could be mistaken. I hope this helps.

I like the idea of cutting/removing the plastic either side of the opening for the radiator. Then maybe rerouting the intake to suit.
I'm hardly a mechanic. So if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, please let me know.

Your grill looks sweet, mate.. nice job
Care to share pics of the added fan?

I have an 09KK bought new. I think you should have a look at the exhaust for a leak hitting the fender, my fenders have never felt hot unless being hit with direct sun light. I live in the mountains and often tow 5-7 thousand pound trailers up mountain grades, never once has my KK overheated, it does get close to redline on the longest steep grades.
