okay, i gave up for the night, going to pull the balancer and timing cover tomorrow.
anybody have any idea what could have happened? the tensioners LOOK like they are in good working order, but even if they failed, would that allow enough slack in the chain for it to somehow jump a tooth?

also, if both the cam sprockets are aligned at 12 oclcok, and the crank is off, wouldnt that indicate that the idler sprocket/ crank sprocket chain was where the timing jumped? is that even possible?

guess ill see what i see tomorrow...

Replied in your other thread but reading back through your posts in this thread answered my questions. I'd guess that the loose harmonic balancer bolt allowed the timing gear to ride funny on the crankshaft and the timing gear wore the keyway so that the timing is now off just enough to create the No Start situation.

Hopefully the keyway can be repaired and a new key will line things up to get you running again :waytogo:

Pulled everything apart, found a broken woodruff key on the crank.
used patience, vice grips, pb blaster, and a small flathead to work it loose.
used a pick and magnet to get the broken piece out of the crank sprocket.
rotated the crank shaft back into alignment with the crank sprocket, poped in a new key.. then put it all back together, turned the ignition, and prayed...
so far, so good!
