Noise Identification...

I have what I think is the last noise I'm trying to get rid of while driving. I have a low speed creak usually while going over bumps or slow stops. It's not a high pitched noise, more like a creepy movie opening door sound that I think is coming from the front.

I think that it's the springs (probably because I'm dreaming of an OME setup) but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for something else to look for. I'm replacing the brakes this week because they are making one hell of a racket but I don't think they are the cause of the haunting noises.

The ole creaky sway bar end links possibility....
Get some silicone spray lubricant and spray into bushings and make sure bolts tight.

The thin round vertical bar just left of rubber boot is end link.
Sway bar attaches to them both sides.

Spray all your rubber bushings really well with WD-40. take it for a drive over some speed bumps, not a dusty road, then re-soak all the bushings again. This may take a couple of times and a can of WD-40, but it will get rid of the squeeks. I have tried other products but they dont work as well as WD-40. pc06er

Well it looks like we've got some culprits! I'll have to go buy a new bottle of wd40 and start spraying everything as I'm pretty sure I don't know where my rubber bushings are... Just to be sure, it's the rubber bushings, not the rubber ducklings? hahah I might also have trouble finding a road that's not dusty so I may just have to drive around in circles outside Home Depot for a while to do these tests. Is there anything under there I don't want to be spraying with wd40? Just in case I get a little trigger happy...

No, Just dont spray the brakes!!! That would not be very goodp:. The sway bar that goes across the front is famous for squeaking. WD-40 is a water base lubricant, so it wont hurt anything under their. Try not to get it on the outside paint job, ect. You might be surprised how clean you can get your Jeeps underside with this stuff.. It will stop the squealing! pc06er

Not to get all pedantic but WD40 isn't water based, its solvent based. It's designed to displace water (Hence the name WD40) Water Displacer and 40th attempt when designing it. You would be better going to a motorcycle shop and buying chain lube as its rubber friendly (Stop sniggering at the back!) Hehe and sprays on and creeps like water and sets as grease without perishing rubber! Always used it and it works well. Steve :smokin:

Does it do it in turns, stops and take offs? If it's not what the guys mentioned then it's a shock.

While you are under there, just go mad with chain lube and spray all the rubber bushes you can see, it won't do any harm and will quieten the ride down. Ever noticed how much quieter your Jeep rides when you have been spraying a hose pipe around under the wheel arches etc? Same effect with chain lube. I think they all are nowadays but just make sure the lube is suitable for 'O' ring chains and you will be fine. The harley shops might not stock it cos they run on elastic bands! :happy175: Steve :smokin:

I always knew WD-40 displaced water, but I always thought it was a water based lubricant. I know it will eat the bluing off a rifle. I learned that the hard way. I have only sprayed my bushings once and it worked very well. If I ever have to do it again I will use the chain lube. Thanks. pc06er

I couldn't fund any chain lube but this looks to have all the proper properties. It's safe on even the most delicate plastics! I didn't do anything yet, waiting on my chorus of approval, disapproval, or amusing contradicting advice.

Alright... I'm gonna do it. Blaster Silicone Lube is the official choice for desqueaking Mr. Darcy. All that's left is to figure out how to get under there...

O'ring safe chain lube works well, but you need to clean it of and respray often. It draws alot of dirt and dust and forms a grinding paste wearing down metal parts.
After every trail, i clean the underside with prepsol and respray all bushings. Part of owning a 4x4 i suppose.
