Looking into getting myself a D-Shackle hitch insert and a nylon tow (well, yank) strap. I have a light-duty one with the metal hooks on the end - to clarify, I am looking for one with only nylon loops on the end for off-roading.

What size/length do you all recommend? I was thinking 20', but that almost seems like it may be a little too short. I don't want it too long either, because then we'd need a whole lot of clearance. I suppose it could be doubled up though.

I'd appreciate your recommendations!

Get one that is at least 15,000lbs rated, length is up to you.I always carry 2 straps with me,one is a 20'x2" rated at 15,000(used first),and the other is a 30'x4" rated at 30,000lbs.Both straps where bought at TSC(Tractor Supply Company) and cost less then $70 for both.If that's not enough I have my 100' of 3/8" 20,000lbs rated winch rope also.

I got a 10ftx2in 25,000lbs strap. I bought it for $10 Bucks. So if don't go the budget you can always find a good one for a Cheap Price. I've used my plenty of times and no issues with it.

You really want at least a twenty footer and 30 is better and at very least 12000 to 15000, you want a longer one just to get you away from what you are pulling (or being pulled out of )

Slightly North of the 49° th. Parallel... In HongC
We have a 2"x15'polypro tow strap for on road vehicle assistance. And a 1" 3/4"x 15 webbing trap(just in case)
Off road we have a 3"x30" and 4"x30" recovery strap.
In addition, we have a 9500lbs winch with 100 feet of 3/8 cable. Pully and SMC steel carabiners
We also carry several "tree saver" straps

Cool, thanks guys. I think a 30' would be good then. Worst case, I can double it up, right? So, I'd have a 15' and a 30'.

Most of the time I am with my buddy - he has a TJ with a winch, so I should be OK. Extra insurance is always nice though.
