Overhead Data cluster compatibility

Hi guys, new to the world of jeep. I have a 03 sport and I'm pretty happy with it but I've seen that other models had a overhead data cluster on the roof that give MPG, outside temp and so on. I happen to love getting all that info as I drive, My question is would I be able to get one out of a junkyard and add it to my sport without too much hassle? My hope would be its just a matter of an option that wasn't installed and all right there plug in play but biggest concern would be I put one in need to install a wire harness and the computer wouldn't even see it because the firmware etc. Has anyone tried this?

Gonna need reprogramming at the dealership. It is far more involved than a pop and swap sadly.

On an 03 lol? It almost is, you just have to find the correct compatible module. Installed one in a 2004 because my ex-wife was jealous of my Ram lol. This article (which is somehow still up) is very helpful: http://alucinari.net/jeep/kj/evic_install/
