How do you check the level of the power steering fluid on an 05 KJ with the 3.7? I removed the cap, basically just a plug with no 'dip Stick"

Hi pressure power steering line tend to leak at the pump and turns the reservoir black and makes it hard to read. Clean it up and you should be able to read the level.

If it is black plastic it should still have a clearing spot or line on the side to determine the level.

Doesn't really matter, 'cos you can't see it anyway - I couldn't even find mine, not helped by it not having the mandatory yellow cap. (God help anyone taking their driving test in one in this country).
Passed my test in a Series III Landy, simpler times!

the reservoir was probably painted black like my replacement was. Just use some brake cleaner/paint thinner/acetone to wipe off the black paint so you can see where the level is.

But once it was fitted, how would you ever know? Or is it just on the 3.7 that it's so deeply buried that you're hard-pressed to see even the cap?
DUH, marks on the side of it , clearly visible if you wipe it down, plus most are raised letters

When the test was more concerned with driving proficiency.

Simpler vehicle too - although that might explain why you now drive a KJ, rather than a Defender.
I'm not keen on random snapping crankshafts! Or the chocolate auto fitted the td6, sadly land-rover have lost the reliability they once had, the crankshaft saga is unbelievable they have just completely ignored it! Might be tempted by a WJ.....

A neighbour had a, then, new RangeRover, which didn't like wet weather: bit of a bad joke really - & I used to think they were wonderful.

Had a brief flirtation with a 4.7 WJ, seemed to have very enthusiastic following but the magic never rubbed off on me; definitely not impressed - although the exhaust note was hypnotic & fully functioning Quadradrive is amazing.
