2006 CRD Sport 4x4. My boy has always taken care of his Jeep. But, I believe an overheating event has likely blown the head-gasket. I believe that he's getting coolant into one of the cylinders which seems to be causing a hydrolock condition furing start-up. If he removes that cylinder's glow-plug (I think it's the #4) to purge...then reinstalls it, it'll start just fine. There is oil in the coolant even after replacing the oil cooler. I told him that engine is done for...just get a remanufactured one -don;t even bother rebuilding.

MY QUESTION IS:
Where is a good place to rebuild our engines or obtain a solid remanufactured engine? Not too many shops like servicing the 2.8L. We are west coast and Chysler dealerships won't touch it because they've no diesel techs familiar with the 2.8L CRD. What's a wrench-turner to do??

Why replace a whole engine instead of just doing the head gasket? It's an engine like any other, I don't understand why garages are scared of it. There is a guy on Lost Jeeps who offers a mobile mechanic service if you are stuck, I think his name is Geordie.
