To confirm it, get a build sheet from Jeep...it'll say.:D

I went to Jeep.com and to the "owners" section, but I didn't find anything to get a build sheet. Or are you saying to go to a Jeep dealer?? Can you point me where to get a build sheet? I really don't feel like crawling under my Jeep and counting bolts on the ******.;) I looked for the original window sticker and I couldn't find that.....I thought that might have something on it. I just have a window sticker that says "4 Speed Automatic with O/D".

Go to Jeep.com, scroll down to bottom of page, and click "Contact Us" and just type in build sheet. They'll email it to you within a day.:)

Now I have 2 conflicting opinions, the one quoted above and that given previously by JeepJeepster. Assuming that 4x4 Low cant be used at all on sealed surfaces will reverse gear eventually destroy itself unless I use the
services of a tow vehicle every time I need to reverse up a moderate incline?

Thanks,
John.

you will damage the transmission due to over heating or excessive slipping
the "reverse gear" will hold up but other issue will arise

again I did out line a "fix" to the problem maybe you missed it
knowing that you can not regear the transmission and the gears are not low enough then you need to change some thing out
the only thing that can be changed is the gears in the diff's
put the 4.10 gears in there and it will pull just fine
until you put bigger tires on

245/75R16 MTR' is that too big for 3.73 ? I do have that ****** thingy and i already have most the stock to lift my libby so ....

I dont think it is but I could be wrong
you will have to try it and see
we have the 45 and with 3.73's I can spin the 245/75's in reverse
so if first gear is low enough then your only concern would be reverse
depending on where you live it may or may not be a problem
