So I finally went. What a cool trip! A weekend was a bit short for the amount of driving we did - 3 days 1400km, but it was worth it to do the pass.
I did a bit of exploring around the lodge we stayed at before going up the pass...

Sure, it's no Kili, but that's several hundred meters higher than Whistler and the highest ski lift I used in Meribel (French Alps)

Thanks folks. That last photo makes the road look a lot more tame than it actually is. Most of the pass is plain sailing, but the last bit is really rocky and pretty hairy in a couple of spots - you'll see when I get the video up.

If you ever did, I'd recommend carrying on further into Lesotho like Bulli did. The pics I've seen and articles I've read have put it firmly on my To-Do list.

I notice that it not as green as i remeber it, and that changes the complete picture. Looks more rural.
Did you also noticed the power loss on your way to the top?

Yeah the whole region was fairly brown - no real rain this summer yet... I'd love to see it mid-winter. All white...
I did actually notice a drop in power. In retrospect using 4Lo might've been worthwhile to keep the revs up. I was almost flooring it in first at some points - and still only doing about 10kph!

I'm super keen to get out to Namibia, but I think I'll cut my teeth on Lesotho's interior first. I would love to check out Baviaanskloof too. I built the Eastern Cape Tourism's website and instantly wanted to go when I added the photo albums

I thought puffadders are much more drab in colour, but Google says your spot on. *Very* glad I resisted temptation to give it a nudge

That would take balls of titanium - even for a rally driver

Good for you not nudging little puffa. We encountered alot of them in the eastern Cape (Patensie, Baviaans, Willowmore) and what i've noticed is that the one you've shot (with your piccy catcher) is much brighter than the ones in EC. More than once if we stopped next to it on the road, it turned towards us and wanted to attack we suppose. it will lift it's head and swing it side to side then jump towards the jeep and at the last moment it will retract and turn around and just stay there till we drive off. Maybe in EC they more stressed out(less weed growing) than in lesotho.

If you plan a trip inside Lesotho, try and plan it in Nov, Des then its not so cold and the most rain is gone and its green. Just my 2c.
