After bruising one of my rocker panels I decided it was time to add some rock sliders. Bought a cheap welder off Ebay and some 1-3/4" 1/8" wall steel tubing. I wanted to attach the rock sliders with 1-1/2" x 1" rectangular tubing but my local steel supplier only had really thin gauge stuff so I used some old Thule roof rack bars I had lying around - they are a bit smaller than I would like but have the same wall thickness as the round tubing. If there is a failure point it will be my crappy welds. I used the mounting plates for the stock nerf bars - just had to drill some new holes. Painted them with some satin black enamel from the hardware store I'm sure will need touched up on a regular basis. I was going to test them out by using them as a jacking point to lift the vehicle but chickened out. I likely won't test these out on the trails till next spring / summer but will report back on how they perform.
