When you turn a rotor, it removes material. Less material=less heat dissipation. Less heat dissipation=warp

Don't bother turning rotors. Replace them with your pads.

Just out of curiosity, can slotted rotors even be turned at all?

Actually turned rotors with less material dissipate better, but inconsistently. Hence rewarping. I hated having drums on the back of my S10. That was one thing I was looking for when I bought my KJ was it had to be all 4 disc antilock. Much easier to work on and they work! Rear drums can be such a nuisance and by my experience dont tend to hold adjustment. That may be a GM only thing, but thats what I've seen.

FWIW, we had our KJ's brakes serviced last September and the front Rotors are warped again!
Warranty?

Oh sure!

I think not!

So this time I'll be climbing under the truck to replace the front Rotors with a set I bought from Canadian Tire. "ATE" Rotors and pads.
The price was right and so is the warranty that comes with them.

I'll see what happens!

I just changed the rear disks and pads on my '05 Renegade (39k miles). The pads were completely gone and the disks were disintegrating. The only machined portions left was about a 3/4 " band part way around the disk. I can't believe that it stopped at all or didn't make a racket.

The total cost for two disks and the pads was $105. It was a pretty easy install. The only tough part was getting the old disks off. The hub was heavily corroded. I had to heat up the disk around the hub area for about five minutes each until they "popped".

It really is an interesting system with the disk which is also a drum for the emergency brake.

Got the stuff done today...what a difference! I never realized how poor the stopping power really was until after these ones were put on. Cost me more than I was anticipating--didn't realize brake pads were so expensive  But at least now it's done and I don't have to worry about it for a longgggggg time xD
