Offset oxygen sensor socket. As for the connector....lots and lots and lots of cussing, scratched up arms (and bruises, too).

I got it, but it took a while. And I drank a lot of beer after.

Mine started to round off even though I used an O2 sensor wrench. :( Not happy to say the least. Remember to heat up the Jeep for a short time before you crack at it.

I find it easier to hit the bung with the propane torch. That way, I don't burn my arm on the hot exhaust pipe.

Sooooo front driveshaft was removed. Sensor is now loose. (Wacked my face pretty hard with a cheater pipe when that happened). But... my forearm is too big to get to the sensor connector. This is going to be a interesting day.

Haha no blood just a bruised cheek bone. Though this jeep has already gotten about a pint out of me.

Still can't get the sensor connector off. The sensor is out though. I may need to break my arm to get this connector off.

Here is the culprit. Doing some research with my phone because I just can't see in there.

try two long flat head screwdrivers.
Looks like you just need to push down on the tab in order to slide it out.

Well ya see I can't even get my hand into that spot. from the top steering column and brake lines are in the way. From the bottom heat shields and transfer case. Just jammed my arm in and had a hand on it but it wouldn't budge.

Nothing long enough to push the tab down? I know it's easier said than done.

Sometimes I can have smarts. Made a slipknot with an old shoelace and was able to pull with my right arm and push down with one finger.

Getting it connected was the harder part for me, though getting it disconnected was no picnic.

All done. No codes so far. Idle has returned to normal. Sounds much better. Leaving the Trans skid off for now so I can check the level some other day. Today I earned a beer. I hope I never have to do that sensor again. Ever. On any vehicle. Ever.

Well. Shit. P0171 came back but the P0131 went away. So O2 is now fine? Still have a vacuum leak somewhere I think. May have to turn to an expert with a smoke tester.

I had that same P0171 off and on for over a year after I swapped in my new engine. Replaced a bunch of vacuum hoses but it would still come back - seemed to pop up after the engine was at idle for a while when fully warmed up (didn't matter if it was winter or summer.) I figured that one or more of the gaskets around an intake runner on the left side of the engine had a very slight leak that was amplified when the engine was at operating temp. And an engine at idle draws more vacuum so that's when it set the code. Engine never ran any differently so it seemed the leak wasn't that big.

Good news is I haven't had the code since last summer. Not gonna go after the source of the leak unless the code comes back. Maybe you'll be in the same situation. Does yours run rough or seem like it has a miss?
