Good question. Hopefully one of our Diesel members may have an answer for you.
Are you experiencing any issues?

Factory spec on the timing belt is every 100k miles.
What else you should ALSO change while doing the timing belt is more complicated.

60,000 miles or 5 years is the recommended interval I think. A locking kit is cheap if you don't want to make your own.
When you do it don't forget ALL the pulleys and the water pump and a fresh charge of HOAT coolant.

That must be for the 3.7 V6...its 100k miles (160km) for the 2.8 CRD.
Not that theres any danger in replacing it sooner, but not what the OP asked... ;)

How often should you change the timing belt on a 2005 crd?

If it's the 2.8 turbo diesel it's 100k miles or eight years. I did mine at 82K and 12 years, the belt wasn't in great shape. There are a couple of good videos on YouTube (and a few not so good) showing the procedure including some useful tips. I thought the Git It Garage channel was best. Not a difficult job, just lots to remove to get to it.

As KJowner said, there is time factor as well. AFter ~5-6 years doesn't matter how little you've driven it, you still need to change the belt.

Cami, I have all the tools you need to do this. The green tune will probably not work on your rig as that are locked to the original vin no. Tools have been used 3 times. I no longer need.

I don't like to stretch the interval on a belt, it's a cheap job compared to a top end rebuild.

Thank you for your reply. There are many tools pictured in your reply so which ones are you selling and what are you asking for them. I do not understand your part about the green tune not working.
Thank you
Mike

Sorry, the green tune is a program for the map sensor that essentially shut off the pollution controls and just made the rig run better. You can research it. My understanding is it is linked to the specific vehicle. It is also a code reader. I just checked the tools, the timing belt tool has a bent pin. The one in the middle. At any rate, if you pay for the shipping, they’re yours. Jeep was donated 4 years ago w/349k on the clock.

Thank you for your very generous offer. My zip code is 85621 in Nogales Arizona. If you weigh the items and give the post office my zip they will quote you a shipping charge. How can I pay you, pay pal or do you have a business that accepts visa debit cards? I do have an Arizona bank account and could write you a check. If we can figure out a way to pay you, I will give you my full Arizona Address. I actually am retired and living in Mexico for 22 years. Where in the world do you live?
Thank you
Mike

The manual indicates 80-90000 miles. When I do it, I replace the water pump as well since its right in the same place. Also check for slop in the idler pullies.

A medium flat rate box from your zip to mine is $18.40. I will give you 20.00. Just tell me how you want to be paid, I may be able to do a direct transfer from my bank to yours but I would need your routing number and account number. my email is,,, [email protected].
Thx

Better off transferring money with Zelle or Venmo. Both easy to set and which may depend on your financial institution. The security is a lot better than what’s generously being proposed in this exchange.

I will set it up on Friday and we will figure it out. Zelle works best.
