I have a 6” but I'm lifted 4” with 32s and that's what makes my trailer sit level.

a 4 inch drop usually works out depending on trailer height.

Should be just enough room to fit underneath a 245 75 16 mounted on the door with the bracket flipped upside down.

If your stock tires and not lifted it will also work with even more room.

a 2.5 inch drop will also work if you open the swing gate a bit to connect to the ball. But this is more a factor of how high your trailer / jeep is to make it sit level.

Lots of variables go in to trying to determine that, only you can answer that question .
Depends on
height of the trailer you will be pulling
the height your KJ is ( depending on if lifted)
what size tires
how much its sagged if stock suspension
So figure trailer tongue height and then measure where you are

Recall hitch info

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum. Haven't finished updating my profile yet, but I wanted to pass on some info and pose a question about the gas tank/hitch recall. I have a 2005 Liberty Renegade with skid plate package. Took it in yesterday for the recall hitch install and was told I would have to lose the gas tank skid plate for the hitch install. They have a tool that Chrysler sent to their dealership to measure clearance between back of hitch and tank and it was their experience that the skid plate would have to go. They also informed me that the hitch was for protection only and could not be used as a hitch to tow ANYTHING. Maybe for a bike rack but nothing else. So I said no, thank you very much, but I'm not losing my skid plate. They couldn't provide a measurement to go by, even in the paperwork from Chrysler. My question is, is there a good aftermarket hitch out there that would work with the skid plate? I want to be able to tow my 16' fishing boat. The dealer would have to test the clearance with their tool to sign me off on the recall. They did say that they haven't had any aftermarket hitches not pass, but didn't know if any had a skid plate also. Sorry if this has already been discussed, I haven't had much time yet to go through the forum. Steve

Sounds like BS, I'd say most members here have the gas tank skid and the hitch. I do. Can you try another dealer?

Dropped off this morning and asked about this " not a real tow hitch" thing. They told me they are supposed to say this, however it is 100% a legitimate tow hitch. just figured I'd put that out there.

I was able to keep my factory fuel tank skid plate. The rear tow hook had to come off due to clearance issues though.

Interesting that Chrysler has to tow the line (pun intended!) with these replacement, recall hitches. To make sure they fit the narrative that they are to be used for fuel tank protection and not towing, they even removed the wire harness box for the trailer electrical connection. Compare KodiakKJ's new hitch to an original factory hitch:

What gets me is the fact that IF they didn't want anyone towing anything then WTH did they make it look like you could, why not just a big flat hunk of steel I beam or something :happy175::icon_lol::happy175:

Craziest thing I have ever seen or heard,....................................
well almost the craziest, but it was late at night, had some shine, was way down in West Virginia and............

What the heck do you think people are going to do with a trailer hitch. I can hear a dealer now say you can't pull with that trailer hitch you payed for and had put on, it can only be used to protect the gas tank.
