Does anyone know what size transmission oil cooler is fitted to an 05 3.7Lt Renegade model. I ask because I changed the transmission fluid and it took 5Lt instead of 3.8Lt as spec'd in the manual. I checked the dipstick when hot and running in Park. I'm pretty sure I have the level right but can't imagine the fluid capacity could be that far out. The only suggestion I can come up with is perhaps an aftermarket oversized cooler was installed be the previous owner?

Always add the correct, specified amount of fluid first.
To get a more accurate reading, drive the Jeep at highway speed for 30 minutes and check fluid level again.

I always measure what came out to get an idea of what should go back in. Then check the level after driving it.

Idk what an Lt is, but mine normally takes around 4-5 quarts.

So, 5Lt is about 5.3 Quarts, which seems excessive for a normal 4RLE service with a new filter. Hence the idea that perhaps the oil cooler may be a factor? I am reluctant to drive until I can get some clarity.

Thanks for the input so far. I took her out this morning and did a 20min offroad run with OD on and lots of gear changing up and down to get the box nice and warm. Checked again and the level lies midway between the upper and lower hot range on the dipstick. All good then?

I still can't figure the quantity of fluid that went in. Any ideas would really be appreciated.

It depends how much comes out of the guts of the gearbox and cooling pipework. I think a total fill from dry is something like 11 lts.
