I was pondering this the other day. Will we ever see upgraded ones like JBA sells for the uppers? I'd drop coin for a set if they ever become available.

What are good replacement lower ones? Are Moog ones ok?

And I would also consider JBA lowers if such an animal existed. :D

Yeah more/less. The mopar ones work well but hey why not upgrade to something that is even more robust.

ok correct me if i'm wrong...
JBA UCAs were created to solve 2 problems: non-replaceable ball joint, and clearance/spring contact when over a certain lift height.

what "issues" would an after market LCA be solving? I thought the stock ball joint was the weak link, and that's replaceable with a better one from moog. the bushings can be replaced, also with better ones with moog. short of changing the position of the clevis (i'm thinking vertically) what other changes would you want to the LCA. are people breaking them with some kind of regularity not being reported on here?

If the Moog control arm bushings are good quality...why wouldn't the entire lower control arm from them be ok?

I'm thinking mine are probably going to need replacing in the nearish future. I have a bad feeling about getting bushings out of them.

There is nothing wrong with the stock LCA's,they are pretty strong as is.I know since I've bounced them off many, many boulders in Colorado and MOAB.

The only reason for wanting different ones is for weight but to keep the strength the materials that would be used would make them twice the price of the OEM arms which are pretty pricey now.

What do you think of Moog ones?

I only posed the question mainly as a discussion so that I could see different perspectives on the subject and learn a little more as to why no one had made an aftermarket front lower control arm. Now I know, and knowing is the half the battle. Go Joe!:happy175::happy175:

If you were to look at the casting marks on all the lower control arms produced for the liberty. You will see that most if made here in the US are all the same. Meaning they are made at the same plant. They are sold bear so companies like Moog puts their own hardware in them as well as Detroit axel and so on. Know for a fact that Moog buys their lower and upper control arms from a separate manufacturer. There "problem solver brand UCA is the same as you would buy as a factory replacement. I called them on it. there is nothing special or different than a factory UCA. So what you have to ask yourself is who's bushings and ball joints do you want when buying a new LCA. Then if your LCA isn't broke why spend the money on a new one when new bushings and better ball joints are out there.

So the only thing that can vary is the bushing quality then...so therefore the Moog ones should be fine since 1. Same base arm as factory and 2. Moog bushings are good ?

The bushings aren't cheap and paying someone to replace them will bring the bill close to what you would pay for new ones. I'm looking at a set of LCA's on ebay for 160 for the pair. Maybe if you have a press and do it yourself it may be worth it, but if not it would be more cost effective to just buy new ones, unless you buy Mopar replacements.

That's what I'm leaning towards, if just getting the whole Moog assembly is known for being quality and I won't have to replace it again in a year.

Mopar ones are like what, $350 each I think? Over $300 for sure. Moog ones are $150 each.

Not totally interested in just replacing the bushings in mine, doesn't seem very cost effective. Or fun.

I'm looking at the Detroit Axle ones on fleabay. Now that someone is saying that they are basically the same, I feel much better about buying them when I get some money.

Keep us updated on how they work if you get them! I think I'll go for the Moog ones when the time comes. Unless the Detroit axle ones turn out to be great and last.

But wasn't there a official Jeep recall on the lower control arms?
If so, it shouldn't cost you anything to have them replaced!
