Does the water pump house the 2 idler pullies if I broke the idler studs buy replacing the water pump will that save me drilling and tapping and getting a new water pump at the same time

If you broke the bolt in one of the pulleys you just replace the whole tensioner. It holds both pulleys. Super simple. If you broke the bolt that holds the tensioner you’re extracting things and I wish you luck.

Does the KK and KJ use the same tensioner? I just did my KJ and it was super simple

Looks like same part number, so unless you have a crd it’s probably a very similar procedure

Yes I have the crd and the 2 idler pulley's I am talking about didn't come off with the tensioner

Ahh, I assumed a kk would have the 3.7 gas engine

What liberty do I have then it's a liberty limited crd, 2.8 l diesel in the forum is it a kk, kj, or something else

Is there a hard copy repair manual for the 2005 liberty limited crd. I can only find the on line cd's.

On the diesel the water pump is driven by the cam belt, the idlers are further up the block.
What are you doing on the Jeep? Cam belt or serpentine?
I'm fairly sure the idler bolts are left hand thread, chech before you get too brutal on the other one. My favourite broken bolt remover is a welder, tack a nut or washer on the broken bit and unscrew it, the heat usually brakes the old threads loose.

When was the cam belt last done? If it's old then it is probably worth replacing it along with the pump and the HOAT antifreeze. The idlers should be done at the same time, cheaper than a snapped cam belt!

It's the Serpentine and tensioner I figured I do the idlers at the same time. How can I find out if there right or left hand. Plus the bolt shaped almost flush I was figuring on grinding it totally flush and retapping a new hole

That will be difficult, it's an aluminium housing with a steel bolt, you will have to be careful the drill doesn't take the easy route.
Just did a Google search incase I'd forgotten it... nope the bolts are both left hand thread.

My housing that the bolts are in is cast iron. We must have different engines or talking about different pullies. I have 3 pullies one on the tensioner, and another 2. I am talking about the serpentine belt not the timing belt

Is it the same as the picture above? Mine are 2.8 and 2.5 CRDs. The water pump is bottom left, not visible in this picture as the belt casing is on, the fan hub is the large pully in the centre.

I have to check tommarow but you are correct the broken idler pully bolt is left hand thread I found part of the bolt under the jeep. I dont understand why they would use two idler pullies with left hand threads and the tensioner pully a right hand thread.

Now that we know the idler pullies are left hand metric bolts do you know the size wrench are right or left hand thread for the clutch fan I can not budge it with a adjustable wrench and the clutch spanner
