Which is funny because it has nothing to do with Chryslers VIN code letter. Liberty and Nitro are W after the year.

All Jeeps from the very first were given letters as a designation of the model , here are some of the most recent ones including the KJ

XJ
Cherokee (1984–2001)
MJ
Comanche (1986–1992)
YJ
Wrangler (1987–1996)
ZJ
Grand Cherokee (1993–1998)
TJ
Wrangler (1997–2006)
WJ
Grand Cherokee (1999–2004)
KJ
Liberty/ (2002-2007)
The first new Jeep to feature an independent suspension since the 1963 Wagoneer, the Liberty (as it is known in North America; it goes by the name Cherokee in all other markets) replaced the XJ Cherokee in 2002. The Liberty comes with a 3.7 liter V6 engine, but was also available in the US in 2005-2006 with a 2.8L 4cylinder common rail diesel (CRD) engine.

WK
Grand Cherokee (2005-2010)
XK
Commander (2006–2010)
JK
Wrangler (2007–present)
JKU
4 Door Wrangler(2007-present)
MK
Compass/Patriot (2007-present)
KK
Liberty (2008-2012)
KL
Cherokee (2014-present)

Some of the earlier models
CJ-2A (1945–1949) First civilian model
CJ-3A (1949–1953)
CJ-3B (1953–1968)
CJ-5 (1955–1983)

Notice anything that is the same clear through all of the years ???
Well all except the last few years when they blew it on letters

Those are awesome with the sliding side door.

Since they are two wheel drive always wanted one to chop the top 4-5 inches, lower it down some and have a nice healthy motor in it.
Had a guy down home who drove one for years back and forth to work, not sure what he did with it when he retired

I always wanted a CJ-8. I really like the LJs I have seen with the "scrambler" conversion

My great uncle sold his 1944 Jeep willys to one of my cousins. I must get that from him some day!

There was a 46 Willys for sale locally for $5k. If I fit in one I probably would have bought it.

The "W" in the 11th VIN character is the plant code.

"W" meaning Toledo North Assembly. (Liberty, Cherokee)
"C" meaning Jefferson North Assembly. (Grand Cherokee)
"D" meaning Belvidere Assembly Plant. (Patriot, Compass)
"L" meaning Toledo South Assembly. (Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited)

So if a Liberty was built at another plant, it would have the corresponding plant code.
