my 06 came with no armor. I live in a predominantly urban area, however there are rare times where i will go off road ( oversidewalk, tree, trail, etc)
Im worried about the weight added by a full set of armor ( am i nuts?), cant particularly afford $400+ in armor, and dont necissarily think ineed it all.

What pieces of armor are most important?

Engine + gastank?
Engine + Transfer?
just gastank?

help!

Engine and transmission for sure, t-case is a bit more recessed but still could use a skid depending on what you are going over, gas tank is  I'm not going to say that I've been running all the stuff out here without a tank skid because I don't want my Jeep to give me a reason to get one, so if it asks don't say anything ;)

you need them all
because it is cheeper than replacing the parts they protect
and to ride trails with no fuel tank skid is just craziness
if you rip open your plastic fuel tank you are S.O.L
well it is not "plastic" but i think it is called HDPE
I mean come on how you gonna drive with no fuel?

I agree you should just get all of them. You can do a lot of damage to the ****** pan it’s made of aluminum, so it doesn’t take much to ruin it.

Geeky.....you should get them all. The OEM ones would be good for what you are doing and don't cost that much. Look underneith the front of your jeep to be sure you don't have the front skid. (mine had the front skid from the factory)

Your jeep is a different year than mine but if the skids are the same, I just went to the Dealer and ordered them and asked for a discount and the parts guy gave me 10% off. They came in the next day and I picked them up. Couldn't have been easier or faster. For the 3 skids I needed it was around $200 or so + tax......not $400. I have the invoice around somewhere and if you want the numbers, let me know and I'll dredge it up.

I agree on all of them. I also say the Mpar ones are good. I beat the hell out of mine the last trip and all that happened is some missing paint. Rock crawling and whatnot, you may want something beefier, but the Mopar ones are decent enough.

The front suspension/engine skid took the brunt of everything. I don't think the trans skid took any hits, nor did the gas tank. But, as J-Thompson said, get them all. You know if you get the engine skid, you'll break your tank. If you get the tank skid, you'll smack your oil pan or something. Murphy's Law ;)

get them all, you never know where a rock or limb will pop up and try and go through something! My transfer skid has more scratches on it than the trans skid , gas tank never has touched anything but you need to be prepared

My gas tank has only been nicked but nothing would of gotten hit if it wasnt there since it takes an inch or two of clearance away. I came off a ledge and it got it.

My tcase skid has never really done anything. Once again, it only got hit b/c it was there.

****** and engine skid take the hits on the trails I go on. Theyve never taken a hard hit, just mildly sliding over things. Im pretty easy on things offroad.

If you live in Gary and encounter an occasional mine or IED, you might want to consider some form of bolt-on V-shaped hull.
