Weird Mirror Problem

Okay I have the power mirrors on my 05 KJ and they must have been made by a female (no offense ladies :p) because they are fickle.. However as of late they don't work period here's how it started. You could flip the switch and move them a little bit and then they would stop you could flip the switch on and off again and they would move a little more. Then you would try it a third time it wouldn't move period in either direction. Now they won't move at all, is this a switch issue or motor issue? Wiring to the switch and motor are fine.. I have checked and they are getting power..

Test the wires at the controls, as you press them to see if the correct lead get's power. Without looking at a FSM that is my first instinct.

I had an 03 they would do that in cooler/cold weather, I think the lube in the motor was congealing from the cold.

Had the same issue about a year ago. Checked switches etc, everything was okay. Replaced both mirrors and they worked fine. Strange that both went at the same time.

I've got a similar problem, though I believe it's mainly because I'm kinda lanky and sometimes my knee will sit on the switch. By the time I've noticed it, the mirror won't move at all - presumably because now it's overheated because of the ******* with the long monkey legs.

Anyhoo, once it cools back down it works fine.

Could try removing one of the mirrors and take inside, let it warm up good and then use a couple jumper leads and a 12v source, battery or small power supply, to see if the mirror works ok once warm.

Did you have this problem in the summer or did this just start happening as it got colder?? I know in this colder weather stuff like that gets slow or won't go at all as the grease thickens. I would have to check the FSM to see if the KJ uses breakers in the switch assembly like other vehicles i have worked on, our minivan had these auto resetting breakers built into the large mirror switch, if you ran it too long against its full range of movement the breaker would pop and you have to wait a while before it would work again.

Of course the motor could be overheating, a gear could be stripped... Hard to say without doing some more troubleshooting.

It does it even when it's hot outside.. update on it though normally the wind will bother it some but I dont think the mirror should be moving as much as it is, so I checked the bolts and nuts and they were all tight (factory tight) so this leads me to believe that I've got a bad mirror..

Ok darn... Well if you can find a used one cheap i would say replace one and see if everything is ok, if not then it could still be an electrical problem, but it doesnt sound like it now.
