Alright, time for me to chime in :(

Today I'm driving around with the AC blasting (it's the hottest time of the year in these parts) and I decide to save some gas and put the windows down. No noise, nothing out of the ordinary. When I make my next stop I go to put the windows up and the driver side isn't going up. I had remembered seeing this post one day when I was exploring the forum so I came to check it out.

Now here's my question, how do I figure out what's wrong? I called the local dealership to see if I'm covered under the window plate thing but their system is down so I'm waiting for her to call me back. The boy and I have had the door covers off before to install the new speakers so I know we can do that, but what do we need to look for to know what's wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an '05 and have replaced the regulator plate in the rear windows five times. I paid a $100 co-pay three times, was re-imbersed fully once, and was under warranty one time as well. Next time this happens will most likely put me over the top. I've already been banned from getting my Jeep repaired from one dealership--and that was for insisting they honor their service order and fix the window before closing time that day. I think a class action lawsuit would be the way to go. I know the plaintiffs will only get like 90 cents each while the lawyers make 100's of thousands, but Chrysler is at fault here, and they know it, and they should stop dicking us around. The damages will cost them millions and generate a lot of bad press. It's not rocket science: window go up, window go down. Next time...

The Australian Jeep dealers don't acknowledge that there is a problem and deny any extended warranty has ever been offered by Jeep in America.

I've just fitted a Steiger kit to the Right Rear door. Compared to the moulded plastic original, the metal replacement component is very well engineered and incredibly well priced. Genuine parts $460 at my local dealer. Steiger Parts $120, delivered to me in Australia.

I just wish that more owners can be made aware of the permanent fix being offered by the aftermarket component, to stop Chrysler continuing to profit from a poorly designed original.

Hi guys. Do they just replace the small plastic part ir the whole mechanism? I remember reading somewhere that the repair offered by the official dealers involved the replacement of 07 windows with the non-problematic 05 version. Maybe that was the paid by the owner repair they did pre-warranty extension. As a matter of fact I believe it was mentioned as a drawback of this approach. What is the difference between the 2 versions that would make us prefer the 07-style windows?

UPDATE(03/14/2012): New Design Replacements!

Folks: I had my 2007 at the dealership today to replace another broken window regulator. To my SURPRISE... I was informed by the service department that Chrysler has a new design-solution for the problem... And that they will be replacing ALL FOUR window regulators with the new design! :favorites37: I expect to pick it up tomorrow repaired... And have asked for a copy of the service bulletin... And will post here. Stay tuned!

3 out of 4 of my windows are currently zip tied shut. Planning on taking it in soon to make jeep fix them all under the warranty. This sounds promising since I am so fed up without windows and some other issues I have been thinking of getting rid of the heap. Anyway, is the window warranty a transferable warranty if the jeep is sold. I am the original owner.
Thanks
Ken

Hmmm... I was just about to order the Steiger part for my right rear window on the '06. I wonder if I should now, or take a chance at Jeep fixing it. The VIN tells me it was manufactured right before they switched parts, and they no longer manufacture the regulator for mine so if they try to replace the whole regulator they will be using a different part # which doesn't use the same plate mechanism to hold the window, meaning the window will have to be replaced as well. As I understand it they aren't paying for the windows. Guess I just answered my question... Steiger it is.

Did you try the dealership? In chatting with my dealership folks... They have done replacements that included replacing the glass.

Just got off the phone with two different dealerships after another failure (only my 4th so far; knock on wood). What a load of horse manure. I had my rear passenger regulator / lift plate replaced last year free of charge due to this repair warranty. Both dealerships now state that the warranty has been cancelled and they will only repair certain '07 models; '06 models are no longer covered under the warranty. Just thought I would throw that out there for any '06 owners. Don't expect the dealership to be helpful with a known re-occurring problem that they can't seem to fix.

Just had the right rear regulator break. I don't want to deal with fighting the dealer, or paying the "co-pay", so I ordered Steiger's kit. $100 for the parts, and $3 for first class shipping.

back in Nov. my left rear failed, was told by dealership i had to buy complete regulator there was no service kit for this. after i got the new reg. i discovered this site and am now kicking my self ordered the steiger repair kit for front window when it failed. then i found this thread the other day. i called dealers about this issue today and was (not sure i should name the dealerships)told me no such thing no warranty was ever extended.
Called Chrysler Canada, they confirmed this warranty and told me everything i needed to know, that my jeep qualified and that i would most likely get reimbursed but not for the complete regulator and that that particular dealership was in the wrong for telling me i had to buy the whole regulator. "they should reimburse me but good luck" :s
i'll try any way..

i wonder how many out there don't know about this "warranty extension"

I just bought a 2006 Liberty last month and this month the rear passenger window lift plate broke. I debated whether to take it to the dealer or use the $29 Ebay fix. I took it to the dealer and they said $300 to fix the plate. I already had the door apart so all they had to do was pull the regulator. Anyway the build date was Feb 18 2006 and because it is before March 15 it is not under any warranty. Right? this is according to the dealer.

Called Jeep Customer Care and they confirmed that it is under no warranty and basically said they they will not stand behind their product.

I bought the $29 Ebay fix and we will see if that works. I feel better that I am doing it rather than the dealer not only because I will do a better job but it will be fixed with metal rather than plastic. Should have done this in the first place.

Update: the $29 Ebay lift plate works fine.
