    Transfer case fluid???

My Jeep is new to me this summer and I wanted to change the transfer case oil out to see what shape it was in. It looked like yellow gear oil too when it came out along with what it looked fine metal. ATF+4 went in and I installed a glass sight glass as I want to see the level and also how...

    Tri-Link - Common undercarriage rattles?

Heard that the park brake shoes delaminate from the backing plate, that may rattle if they came un done. Was going to check my park brake shoes a few weeks ago when I installed my snow tires, but ran out of time. I have rotors and calipers on the rear for rear brakes and I know some models don't.

Jeep Cherokee / Liberty 2004 3.7 Crank but no Start

Let us know your selection of head gaskets as some of us may be doing this in the near future. Also, are you using the old head bolts or are you puchasing new ones. There is a procedure that you place a straight edge against the shank of the bolt to confirm there has been no stretching of the...

    rear diff question

Also, just for speculation, I would remove the differential cover and check the side gears and spider gears. Then seal it up and add new oil, rebuild at a later date. Picked up my jeep this summer and it had a howl when accelerating and then stopped when I took my foot off the gas. Opened mine...

Jeep Cherokee / Liberty 2004 3.7 Crank but no Start

Great to hear your one step closer. Magnaflux is a brand name and the process is called dye penetrant for aluminum (non ferrous metal) Aircrafts use this process all the time. It basically consists of a red dye, then clean it off with the supplied cleaner and then spray on the developer to...

Jeep Cherokee / Liberty 2004 3.7 Crank but no Start

Why am I always leaning toward the imobizer system. You have all the right numbers for spark, pressure and fuel, but no go. I would call a locksmith and see if he can be of any assistance. Do you have a couple of keys to try in the ignition.

    coolant tank

They probably put the reservoir tank up high and kept it on the pressurized side of the system to allow it to self bleed the air out of the system. Think they were trying to think outside of the box when they designed it and was hoping this idea would be a marvel innovation. Has anyone seen...

    Strange issue

Put the rear end up on jack stands and bring it up to the speed that you normally feel the problem is. You might have to buy a mechanics stethascope to pin point the area. Be careful, lots of hazards if you want to try this.

    Muffler Time

You can pick up a muffler coupling to join your used tailpipe to you new muffler where they cobbled things up. That would correct that area and save you a few buxs. Then paint your tail pipe with Tremclad high heat BBQ paint. Pick up a 4 or 8 ounce can of it.

Jeep Liberty from Ontario - failed strict BC safety

Now that you have found this forum and another great resource is you tube, with a few basic tools, you could do the brunt of the work and let the shops do the specialized work for say half of what you were quoted. Also, you get to know your vehicle better and also find small things that are...

    New Keys

I've had good luck with using a few guys off of Craigslist in my area. Programmable Key and programming from him was like $60 and I also gave him a key I bought off of eBay to cut that was not programable.

    Heated seat not working

Good idea to see if it is repairable. The only immediate show stopper is, should I also replace the leather seat bottom cover with a new formed leather cover. While searching for a heating pad on eBay, I came across new leather seat covers. Hoping MOPAR used resistance wires as if there is a...

Battery eating light with new alternator

I use one of these Clore/Solar testers for the battery and charging system. Mine is a BA 7, don't think they make that model anymore. He is a newer model below. The BA9 Battery and System Tester features an operating range of 4.5-16V and is optimized to test six distinct battery types...

    Muffler Time

Putting on my snow tires and rims, I noticed all the seams on my muffler has let go. Still sounds ok and don't smell any exhaust in the cab, but what are you guys using. Tailpipe and cats are OK. 1. Magna-flow 2. Walker 3. Other brands

What did you do to your jeep today?

Painted all 4 calipers gloss black, so when the mags go back on in the spring, there won't be a clump of rust behind each one. Might look for some gloss red Tremclad in the future.
