I've seen it a lot but not only jeep. A lot of old dana rears. They used to put a rubber star washer under the pinnion nuts to try to stop it.- 1BADKJ

If that's the case then pull the Driveshaft out again. Pull the pinnion nut off apply some RTV and tighten to specs- 1BADKJ
