Derick, the front bearing/hub unit is the same for a 4wd and 2wd. The 2wd version has a knockout filler plug sort of thing in it to block off the splined inside portion from the elements.
Jayme, the intermediate shaft is firmly planted into the diff carrier and riding on the bushing (I dare not call it a bearing) at the outside end. It's not going anywhere. It'll just spin in unision with the diff carrier.
Derrick, you can remove the Passenger side CV shaft and drive around without issue. Just leave the intermediate shaft in. Nothing will get in the diff if the axle seal is doing it's job. Just don't engage 4wd. I don't know if anything bad would happen but I'm pretty sure that with an open...
Half a Subi or a Lycoming O-235. Only downfall to aircraft engines is the overhaul schedules. Too frequent and too expensive. Seen some v-dub boxers in homebuilts too.
My KJ is going to get an opportunity to stretch it's legs a little and go and play in the mountains. Yep, taking my KJ on a holiday. Oh, and 4.10s. Lockers in the new year, maybe for valentines day. I ♥ my KJ.
After having run the Rusty's springs and Skyjackers shocks I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater than use either one of those companies products again. Long live the OME.
Steve, considering the difference in spring rates between stock petrol and stock diesel, one can safely surmise that the stock CRD springs will boost the front end up. But then, anything must be an improvement over what you are currently riding on.
Steve, I've got the OME790 (CRD springish springs). They fit like a glove. No mod to shock mounting plates, spring perches or isolators. They are a considerably heavier spring rate (500 (?) lbs) over the gasser (310lbs) and will certainly lift your KJ's chin up a bit.
Hey, what's a Canuk?
If you're referring to us north of the 49th, we know what machine shops are. York's Machine Shop in Moose Jaw, SK is one of the finest engine rebuild places in western Canada. I had alot of fun making holes round again and aling honing stuff on their old Sunnen CK-10...
Hey Don, as long as the question isn't about sparkplugs or oil filters you'll get on fine with this bunch. Those two topics seem stir emotions.
Welcome aboard.
Like most here I adhere to the schedule in the book. I change out the diffs and t-case every 12.5K miles (20K kms or every fourth oil change). Too much preventative maintenance can't hurt anything but the wallet. As for the DIY aspect, the task is too easy to pay someone else to do. Do it...
