Tone ring appears cracked or is this normal?

Putting everything back together now for the final install on the rear differential with the TT. I cleaned everything up and have what is either deep gouges or cracks in the tone ring. I have tried to order a new on but they are getting rare it seems and none of them coming fast. I could tig...

    Gear Pattern, Is it Good?

My stock shim was .028 and then I added the .010. For the final I went to .032 total making my own stack and not using stock so .006 overall was removed or .004 added from stock shim height. I set backlash at a strong .006. It is really crazy how little adjustment make such big movements. I am...

    Gear Pattern, Is it Good?

Will check this out for sure. Thanks again for the suggestions. This is first set for me. Have done lots of other mechanical work so am not afraid of it but first one is always an experience. I though I could just use the stock pattern for reference but turns out it was not beautiful so I wanted...

Thank you for looking. Some of the best feedback I get are not “experts”

    Gear Pattern, Is it Good?

Thank you for checking it out for me. I thought the same thing, to shallow and then to deep. Here is where I landed with the last adjustment. I think I am pretty close now

    Gear Pattern, Is it Good?

This morning I pulled it all apart and added .010 to the shim stack on the pinion. First set of pictures is with Backlash at a tight .006 and second pattern is with .008

    Gear Pattern, Is it Good?

I am finally getting around to installing my Eaton TT and 4.10 gears. I am getting very close on the pattern but would love someone to look at it for a second opinion, or third. I think I need to shim the pinion a little more to bring it closer to the ring gear. Backlash is at .007.

2012 KK intermittent crank no start

I recently purchased a 2012 KK for my daughter. Purchased from an older couple and is in good physical condition, body, paint, interior, ect. I have a 2004 KJ that has been pretty much bullet proof at this point but wanted something a little newer for her, hence the 2012. I checked all the...

    Thinking of getting another Liberty

I currently have a 2004 KJ that I love. I originally purchased for my daughter a few years ago and she went a different direction which was her loss, lol. I kept the little jeep and has been the best $4,000 vehicle I have ever owned. Actually better than a lot more expensive vehicles. Now time...

Lift, Big Tires Now I need big gears

Thank you for the feedback. Sounds like your setup is pretty close to what mine will be. Good to know it performed well for you. It certainly is no hotrod in its stock form but that was never the intent I guess. If the donor vehicle works out I will probably move forward since I will have it all...

Lift, Big Tires Now I need big gears

Thank you. My biggest concern was since I still use the rig for daily driving as well that the bigger tires, especially if I went to 32”, something like 265-75-16 that I was going to really tax the transmission when in OD. I have not replaced tires yet think I will go with the bigger tires. It...

Lift, Big Tires Now I need big gears

Good advice. I plan to go through the entire axle and differential while it is out before I put it back together. Figure no better time to replace all the seals and bearings. I will actually probably have a shop go through it and install the Truetrac. I am pretty handy but gears, back lash and...

Good to hear on the Spartan. I saw this one but was not sure how it compares. Thank you for the info.

Lift, Big Tires Now I need big gears

I was really surprised what a rebuilt unit was going for. Even some of the used units on car-parts were pretty expensive and when I ran the VIN came back as 3.73 ratios. I was fortunate and found a donor Jeep, 2003 2.4L in Wyoming with 89k miles on it. Bought the front carrier assembly, cv axles...

Lift, Big Tires Now I need big gears

Thank you. So if I read this right the housing will be the same but I will need to use the mounting brackets off my current vehicle? Will look into the bushings for sure.
