Hey guys I posted some questions in the question forum but I don't think anyone goes in there. lol It's been over a week now and now I really need to know a few things cause tomorrow is the day I need to tow for the first time. I am still really new only having my jeep for 2 weeks now. Anyways here are a few questions, any help would be great. I plan on calling the dealership this morning but they sometimes don't know what they are talking about where as you guys have the hands on experience.

1) I had my hitch installed at the dealership cause my jeep did not come with one. So what class of hitch would this be that the jeep dealer would have added on for me?

2) Also the book says you shouldn't tow untill you have at least 800km or something like that on your jeep. Now I only have 523km but I will not be towing much. I plan on towing two sets of bed mattress sets which in total is 2 mattress's and 2 box springs and head boards and that will be the most weight at one time that will be in there. Will I be ok towing this with not the 800km on my engine yet? I think I will be since it's not a real heavy load.

3) Last question, I will be on the highway a bit with the trailer doing roughly 90km. What is the best way to tow, like should I use 4 full-time, over-drive off or on? I am new to this so you pro's can help me. lol

Once again, sorry for having to post this in here when I posted it in the other forum but I really need to know now since tomorrow is the day. Thanks for any help.

P.S. I am really enjoying this community, it is a lot nicer then the j-body community I was in before.

The hitch is most likely at least a 5,000 lb rated hitch if it has a two in reciever. The OEM is a 2" reciever and rated 5,000lbs in US for 3.7L V6 & 2.8L CRD.

As far as the use of a small light weight trailer and carrying no more then you will be carrying, if your Jeep is a V6 or CRD it will easy handle the load with no ill effects.

1) If it's a 2" receiver it'll be a Class III with the weight ratings Old Navy mentioned.

2) I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. If you were pulling 3000#+ I'd say wait a while longer but your trailer won't have much more effect on your Liberty than a strong headwind would.

3) Two wheel drive will work fine in most conditions. If the roads are a little slick, ice, snow or rain, you can use 4 full-time. For a heavier trailer you might want to shut off the overdrive but, again, with your light load you shouldn't need to. That being said, shut off the overdrive if the transmission is shifting in and out of overdrive frequently at cruising speed.

Good luck!

Hey great thanks alot guys for the help. The only thing I need now is a converter from the 7pin to the 4pin to hook the trailer lights up since my jeep only came with the 7pin. My dodge 1500 had both. I will let you know who it goes. I look forward to seeing how this thing handles a tailer with a small load.

I realize that this may be late, as you mentioned that you were planning to tow today but my Liberty came with the 7-4 pin adapter. So did my Cherokee in 1998. If you didn't get one you might ask at the dealership.

My adapter came in the same plastic bag as the front license plate holder. However that probably doesn't apply in any location where the dealer would install the license plate holder before delivery. Indiana doesn't use a front plate so both of my Jeeps have been delivered new with bare front bumpers.

All that bein said, I just realized that you didn't get the factory tow package. #-o Too bad you didn't keep the adapter off the Dodge. Fortunately this is probably a <$10 part.

Hopefully your tow went off without any problems.
