Just got an '06 Libby Sport and am looking for suggestions on CB radios that fit well into the junk bin.

In the "How To" fact, a Radio Shack TRC-503 was used, but I'm especially interested in a radio with NWS channels and other features. Note that I'm NOT interested in a hand held and mag mount. Will probably add another antenna on the driver's side, similar to stock AM/FM antenna on passenger side, to preserve the vehicle's symmetry.

Also, does anyone have any other tips on mounting the CB, so that it integrates well into the existing interior design?

A lot of people are running the Cobra 75 WX-ST radio. All of the controls are in the microphone and the main unit is small enough to fit in the opening on the passenger end of the instrument panel (where the fuse block would be in an export KJ). As for the antenna, I drilled and mounted a ball mount on mine where you are thinking of putting yours:

I would caution against a full 4' fiberglass antenna, especially if you are going to be off-road where there are a lot of trees. Even with a spring on mine it was a bit much for the mount. I've since downsized to a 2' antenna but I still get good range. Hope this helps.

Thanks Kevin, this helped a lot, especially the picture of your dual antennas - nice job!

I have one concern about the Cobra Unit - I've previously used a Uniden hand held with a Wilson 500 mag mount. The sound quality was terrible in the handheld speaker, so how is the sound in the Cobra Unit?

I actually haven't heard one so I can't say anything to the quality of the audio. I run one of these:

It's an HF amateur radio that I have modded to broadcast on the CB frequencies. Does a real good job and I also have the ability to talk all over the world if I throw on a different antenna.

mine is a tiny little uniden, i installed it inside the console between the seats....had to cut a piece out of the bottom, so the unit could slide down deeper, you dont even know it's in the truck!

good day,

I have a Sparkomatic RA-400 CB Radio which measures: Chassis Dimensions: 5-1/8" (130mm) W x 1-1/4" (32mm) H x 7-1/4" (185mm) D.
and weighs Mear ounces. The sound quality is quite good considering the size of the built speaker.

I am thinking of mounting this unit on the head liner in front of the dome light.

Anybody have any opinions, sugestions, or other coments?

Thanks

Ry'

No opinions?
No suggestions for me? :-({|= headscratch.gif

Before I start removing the headliner in the center by the
front dome lights. Are there any precautions I should be
aware of? (dunno)

Just kidding folks!
I'll figure it out on my own.
