Fog Light Access Panel

Greetings,

Today I changed out my fog lights and noticed something. The previous owner kinda messed up the tabs that snap in. So they just wedged the "door" in and called it a day. Now, I had to kinda snap it back in, but not the correct way. As to get it to pop out, I had to jam a flat head and that added damage to the tab holders.

Has anyone jerry rigged those doors, after they don't snap in anymore? I can see that one of them (maybe both), might pop out after a few Chicago potholes lol.. I was thinking I could cut out the current door and just slap something over it and screw it on. Or if I find the time, replace the whole inner fender, seeing as they're pretty cheap on the internet.

I know this is something stupid, but little things like this always get me lol. Mainly as I don't want snow to pack in there.

I ended cutting the doors on mine off after I went bigger tires the first time. They never stayed closed anyway. I've not had any issues since with lights not working, if that's the concern.

When I first saw the "door" I thought the previuos owner had cut it in him self instead of getting to the light by taking off the whole plastic pce. It's stupid design anyway. Cut it off and use Black duct tape to cover the hole. Make the hole big enough to work on the light while you're at it.

Depends where it broke. Mine broke in a way so that there was a centimeter wide "ledge" that allowed the door to open/close on a sort of hinge (the bend in the plastic). I used epoxy and duct tape (It's on the inner side of the wheel well. Invisible, so who cares??!) to re-adhere it to the flare. It is now currently loose and falling off again but it lasted for about...6 months? I need to find something a little more water proof/heavy duty I think.

Maybe I'll rip it off and show you if I get in the mood to work on the Jeep when I get home hahah.

Yeah I'm kinda glad mine doesn't have them..

Easy solution...get a arb bumper.
I just cut a small hole to get a finger behind the door when I had the stock bumper. Tin snips work well.

Its not a big deal. Mine are off and i drove through flood waters after hurricane sandy. Water was all up in there and my hid's were still shinning. They dont hold back much water any way

I replaced my front bumper fascia yesterday and somewhere in the process, I ended up breaking the fog light access panel door flap things on the inner fenders. It is still partially there, but it is cracked and I can see the inside of the bumper from the fender.

Should I just use duct tape to close it off? Will it hold?

If you want to block it off and have it sealed, yet easy to remove again..
Clean area, use duct tape, and then have a tube of black roofing urethane to spread over top to seal.
That will water proof it, and tape wont come flying off.:gr_grin:

I just ended up drilling two holes in the top and two in the bottom (with corresponding holes above or below each on in the inner fender) and put zip ties through the holes. the top two ties never have to come off and act as a hinge and when I need in there (seldom) ill just cut the bottom two ties, swing open flap, do what needs done and replace. Keeps the large stuff out but like it was said before I don't see them doing much in the way of protection anyway.

I like this idea. But one of mine is cracked and the plastic is missing from the flap. Any suggestions with that in mind?

Holes on the sides and swings like a door instead of a flap? cant be the much plastic missing can there? If there is then go to lowes and buy a small piece of plexiglass and cut to size (just a half inch or so larger than the opening and do the above listed idea of zipties as a hinge on top and bottom. your just trying to keep the large chunks of mud/snow out of there. No real way to prevent water or dust from getting in really.

And today was the first day of snow this year... lol... I'll have to find some black colored plexiglass and do that.

No need to be black....just buy clear, scuff the rear up with some sand paper and paint the back side with black spray paint. Should work like a charm. Even if you don't paint it will be hard to see if its clear. Like I said....just keeping the large chunks of snow and dirt out. Think function not fashion.... More important to protect that $10 foglight bulb and $50 dollar housing that it is to worry about it being a perfect pretty match.
