One last mention...... when cutting the headliner, go as little as possible. As someone mentioned here, it's always better to cut a little at a time. I started with the dome light area, and worked my way back. I only used a utility blade. Be aware, the wires for the passenger visor vanity light are (on my 06 Renny) glued to the headliner and part of the dome light wire harness. After the fact I realized I cut mine, I don't care, but if little things like are importnt to you, be aware.

I also replaced the standard bulbs with led's, I just went out to check them in the dark, it's awesome! I think they are 194 from superbrightleds.com. not sure. I already replaced the foot wells and rear cargo light with blue led's. Such a tiny improvement.

Good luck, and I hope this helps someone.

Hi,

Thank you for this thread. Wow it has 39 pages.

I have a 2006 Liberty Sport 4x4 with sunroof and an OTIS/EVIC from a donor 2006 with sunroof. I assume the donor was a decked out Limited. Unfortunately the ebay seller did not include the mating connectors.

Instead of reading through 39 pages, I kindly ask if there is anything specific to my 2006 to 2006 retrofit I need to be aware of? Is there a quick bullet-item list for the wiring process for my particular 2006/2006 retro-fit?

The one I have in my 07 is off an 04 and it went on no problem. You can go to a junk yard and get the connector off any Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep that has the same style overhead EVIC/OTIS. It does not have to be the same part number EVIC as you ordered.

Do you mind me asking the EVIC part number you got?

I've had an 04 EVIC in my 07 for 3 years now, and I'm getting tired of being nagged about the lack of TPM sensors every time I start up.:emotions122:
So I'm curious if anyone has figured out part numbers.
I'm looking for one that has home link, but not TPM...

I currently have P/N: 56010438AD.
I've narrowed it down to knowing I need P/N: 56010520xx. There's AE, AD, AA, & AB.
Does anyone know of which one of those has home link, but doesn't have TMP?

Also might add that I live in rural Alaska, so going to a junk yard isn't an option. sad2.gif

Isn't there a programming tool that can be bought that will turn off the TPM warnings? I remember seeing it somewhere online early this year in my (thus far futile) attempt to turn them off in my 04. I didn't buy it because it would only work on 05 and later.
BTW...I tried the 56010520AD in mine....it does have TPMS. :favorites68:

Do you have an EVIC or OTIS already installed?

If not, no wiring harness will be present. You have to add it.

You should have gotten the plug and a few inches of wiring from the same vehicle.

I successfully installed an EVIC in place of the old light. Complications are: the lights in the EVIC and my rear entry lights are not behaving as before. The rear entry light simply does not go out! No switch position turns them off. The EVIC lights will go out if I use the light switch on the steering column. Any hints for remedy?

This is hilarious!! I experienced this myself and was completely baffled! I figured it out and want to post here for future members that experience this. You need to set the light switch on the column in it's normal position. If the rear lights are on but front is off....manually click the front lights to turn on with the rear. You have now synced the lights!

To prevent anyone else from making the mistake I made: the wiring diagram for the OBDII connector shown on the page that is linked on the first page of this thread, is a view of the front of the connector. It is not the side where the wires enter the connector.

If you count using the positions on the rear of the connector, you'll end up splicing into the wrong wires (even though they do have the right colors, which makes it look like you got everything right).

If you look very closely you will actually see tiny numbers above each hole in the connector, but they're almost impossible to read without a magnifying glass.

Also, if you have an 05-07 that does not have the bracket installed yet, don't start cutting in the headliner right away. Remove the A-pillar on both sides, remove the sunvisors, and the rearview mirror. This allows you to pull the headliner (and insulation material) down far enough to slip the bracket under it, from the center of the windshield. You can then use the hole of the old dome lights to properly center the bracket, and get it attached to the roof using molding tape. Then you can start cutting the headliner, in the way that has been described for 02-04 KJ's.

Starting with the '05, the wiring for the map lights was changed. The amount of wires is the same, and the connector is the same, but the wires' position inside the connector is different. So if you have an 05-07 KJ, and an EVIC from 02-04, you'll have to open the connector and switch the wires around.

I got an 56010520AD (which came in 2005-2007 KJ's). It does have TPMS, but weirdly enough I don't get the annoying chimes that everyone has been reporting, for not having tire pressure sensors installed. I'm not complaining though :happy107:.

I was just told recently that if your KJ didn't have TPMS as OE, then you won't get the chimes...even if the EVIC you install does. Does your temp and compass work ok?

Ah that would make sense. Yeah both work fine. My KJ already had the ambient temperature sensor installed it turns out.

That source also told me about the OTHER edge of the sword...if the KJ DOES have TPMS as OE, the you'll get the chimes all the time no matter what EVIC you install if there's no TPMS sensors. I learned about that part the hard (and expensive) way.

First of all - Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I have found this invaluable for my own EVIC install (despite Chrome on Android forwarding me automatically from here to a fake virus page - I stuck with it!). I have a 2005 KJ and pulled an EVIC from an 04 and it all works great. I don't have the TPMS and of course the doner KJ did... so now I will try to buy the rims from that doner KJ and hopefully all will be well. As an interesting side note - I live in Colorado, but the doner KJ was from Ontario and it has the metric gagues. I was a little worried about my EVIC but when I plugged it in, I was able to switch to US (looks like that was a universal part the world over). I did have to switch the light wires that people have had to do with the GC swap. I was surprised that I needed to do that, but the instructions waaaaaaayyy back were spot on. I did pull the entire wiring harness from the liner thinking that I could just plug and play - but of course the wire colors and the pin-out in the connector were different between 04 and 05. Had I gotten one from an 05, I think it would have worked just fine - for anyone interested. For that matter, if your vehicle and the doner vehicle are the same year, I would reckon that it would be plug and play simple. As it was, I tapped into the ODBII port and the radio for the switched power (as described waaaaayyy back).

I know people sometimes shun the OCD work that people go thru to get your rig to look as 'original' upgraded as possible. Personally, I prefer to spend the extra time and effort to make it look like it belonged in my jeep all along. I also have a 2000 XJ and I have turned that sport package into the Limited with my upgrades, and the only giveaway is the sport badge on the outside. My 05 KJ will get the same treatment and I appreciate all of the info and advice and instructions and especially the pictures that are NOT hosted on Photobucket and therefore I can still see!!!

Thanks again all!

Hi!

I am new on this board, but I read a lot, because I am happy owner of KJ, here in Europe is called Jeep Cherokee (not Liberty :) ). It is CRD Sport 2005.

So I was reading this discussion about EVIC and there are many pages and American is not my native language so if anyone can tell me what EVIC is good for my Jeep?

I have one EVIC and everything is working/displaying OK, but not the ambient temperature (only two dashes --), and I want it because this is the first reason I installed EVIC (of course it looks great instead dome light :) ).

My EVIC is 56042271AB (W/HMLK) 56042273AB (W/O HMLK), and I have temp. sensor.

Tnx for ansver!

Hi all, I know this is an old thread , I'm new to this forum and I'm trying to understand and make sure I get all the necessary parts and information for installing an EVIC in my New to me 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport.

This looks like a good one . So beside the ambient temp sensor, do I also need the bracket to attach to the 05 roof ? From what I'm reading I think the 05 does not have a bracket to attach ths EVIC to?
If I do what do I search for or what is the part number?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/99-04-OEM-G...edirect=mobile

Not sure it's the same interior color. In some pictures it does look like my color, but in other pic it looks more tan.... I believe mine is more of a pewter color, my build sheet says -J3 Khaki .

Well reading through ALL these threads on EVIC installs, I went ahead and ordered a console retainer bracket p/n 5072348AA for $22 +s&h. Now my only things are from reading all these threads, I'm not sure if the EVIC I ordered from Ebay is right for my 05, and if it has the wire harness or at least the connector for me to make my own harness.
I sent a note to the seller asking, but I'm not expecting a quick response.
It figures that the plug/harness is hard to find, and expensive. Worse case I think I read, I can make something from an old floppy drive connector or something.

Funny thing is, this all started just because I didn't want the annoying horn chirp when locking the doors with the key fob.
Which I already fixed by following this :

To DISABLE (cancel) the horn chirp feature,
Press and hold the transmitter LOCK button for four to ten seconds.
While pressing the LOCK button in, press the PANIC button.
Release both buttons.

Worked like a charm.

But now I'm hooked/determined to get this EVIC with all the other features and programming choices it offers.... And spending more $$$$ that I didn't intend on.

.
