New purchase questions

I am a long time Jeep owner but haven't owned a Jeep in a few years and never owned a KJ. I would like to purchase one but want to know what are some things I need to look out for. The KJ in question is a 2006 Renegade 4WD w/ auto ******. The asking price is fairly cheap which has me spooked the Jeep may be trash.

Welcome to the forum! From my experience and from reading here, these little kjs can last a while if they're well cared for. A very common repair item were the window regulators, so check all 4 windows. Another trouble spot is the rear joint in the front driveshaft. Other than that just do a regular car inspection. Problematic rust spots are rocker panels, third taillight area, and behind the spare tire.

Do not forget about the speakers most likely will need replacement unless it been garaged. My 2005 Limited has 157,000 miles bought new the repairs have been A/C-2 compressors and a rearend, beside those 2 problems been a great little SUV.

Thanks for the advice. The liberty has 130k on it and the dealer is asking 5800 cash! Seems low so thought there may be some hidden issues. I will ask a lot of questions and inspect inside/out/under.

If the issues were hidden the dealer would have it priced at book - around $6,800.

Well test drove it, and it is a good running Jeep. My only issue was that I didn't have a good spot to check 4wd. I did check that that it shifted but not sure all wheels turned. I did not want to tear it up before I make an offer!

Seems low?
I bought a 03 last fall with 81,000 miles, one owner, all paperwork from new , heated garage kept, in almost perfect shape for way less than that all taxes, title etc out the door
If its in good shape thats about normal asking price to start around here

Not a terrible price for the mileage, check to see if it still has the full factory skid plate package, motor, trans, t-case, and gas tank they come factory on the renegade models.

Thats about like the gunk in some oil fill tube necks
some have it some don't
My 03 or 04 don't but the 05 does, but only at one gas station and thats it :shrug:

It could, now or later. The burp back affected Liberty's were the 2005-07 KJ's and 08-09 KK's. Not to mention quit a few other Chrysler/Jeep models.
