Maybe only because it's worn out?

jeeplib05,
I just ordered the same parts myself. Looking forward to getting it done this next month.

It's not mandatory to get new upper mounts unless you live in a severe rust belt area.

When I did my first lift 5 years ago the KJ had 103,000 miles on it and mine were fine. You can't really tell if they're badly corroded until you take the shock & spring assembly out of the Jeep but take a look at the rest of the suspension components. If they're in bad shape get a new set of shock mounts.

If you can loosen bolts for the sway bar links, lower clevis bolt, brake calipers, etc. with relative ease then I wouldn't worry about new mounts. :waytogo:

Thanks for the clarification
I live in Ohio so we do have rust issues here from the salt
It appears that I just have slight surface rust on my components so hopefully I won't have that issue

I would recommend the new front upper shock mounts because the bushing in the mount wears over time. Plus there is no reason to use old parts on a new lift.

Finally received all of the stuff I need for my lift !
Can't wait to install it all, hopefully within the next couple weeks..

Do keep us posted, preferably with some pics/videos from the install. Good luck and enjoy it!

Just have to find a good day to do it all

So, today I started the lift
I have the tires off and everything done up to the point of the UCA
I removed the nut, but I cannot for the life of me get it out of the knuckle
I've put the jack on the LCA and adjusted it to different heights
It doesn't budge !
Any advice is appreciated..

Is this step needed if you don't replace the UCAs ?

Yea you have to disconnect the upper ball joint to drop the arm down far enough to get the new spring assembly in there it is one of the more tedious parts because you dont want it to disconnect and fall to the ground and you dont want to be whacking it with a hammer and smash your ball joint. Sometimes it takes a while but it will go. i lifted the lower up and hit the bottom of the upper at one point Just to try something new.

3 lb hammer, one hit, off
make sure to run the nut back up on a few threads to protect them.
See , offered to help ya ! :happy175::help::happy175:

I've been doing that for the past 10 mins and nothing

I've had guys here teaching them how to do lifts and they didn't want to hurt the UCA or something, I'd walk around take the 3 lb and one hit and off, hit it like ya mean it !

I've had the front coil overs at the shop for a couple hours now so I have to wait for them
Started on the rear and have one spring in
I'll keep posted and put pictures up when it's all finished !

Well, the worst news I probably could've gotten
The bottom iso and piece of metal or whatever is on the coil over is welded so they said they can't take them apart
I have to order new bottom pieces in order to have them put together
