Are you looking at them to use them, or more for looks. IMO, looks wise not bad, but the ones Ive seen eventually rust. If you need them to ease entry into the cabin though, all for it.

I saw them as low as $79, but didn't even check them because I assumed they were flimsy. What drew my attention to these was the powdercoat, though that doesn't necessarily mean it's "good" powdercoating.

I was a good student at CSU, mostly because I paid attention to detail and checked my work carefully.
So why is it that it was not until I went out in the 14-degree frozen tundra to replace my rear window support strut that I noticed that THERE ARE TWO OF THEM - ONE ON EACH SIDE!!!!!! :favorites68:

I find Murphy's Law has an even more profound effect when its really cold.
Example: I crack my positive battery cable connector over the summer hooking up some lights. Decide it still works so I leave it. It gets subzero here and the Jeep's electrical system freaks out and does all this weird crap. Guess who gets to replace (and modify) the connector in subzero temps? This guy.

Cool build prof - might be borrowing a couple ideas from you. I was also thinking of installing a CB, rack and lights for our summer canoeing adventures (yes we have summer up here).

May be a bit late to the party about the cb but I'm in the market for one and like the one that you installed. How do you have it wired up? What's it getting power from? The two AA batteries? It didn't come with an antennea right? Did you have to tune it or was it good from the box? Is this enough questions or should I add some more?:rotflmao:

I bought a cheap SWR meter to tune the antenna. I could look it up, but it was the cheapest one at Amazon with a high rating. I did have to buy the (cheap) wire to connect it inline from the meter to the CB separately, since it didn't come with one. The Firestik line has the "Tunable Tip" feature, meaning that you just adjust the end via a locking nut and there is no cutting involved at all.
The CB is hard wired into the same power line which goes to the radio, so once the ignition is switched off it goes off too.
Look at Post #55 for the antenna and the mount. Somewhere in here I mentioned getting a 3' antenna (just like the 4' one) for city driving since it doesn't stick up above the roof rack. Had I a do-over, I might have gotten the 3' one for city and a 5' one for out on the road. Both work pretty well, though.

I have someone interested in the multifunction switch I replaced when I added the fog lights last fall. Any idea what it's worth? Brand new they go for $150-200 and used ones are all over the map. (Cheapest used one I saw was $50 on eBay.)
I don't want to rip the guy off, nor do I want to give it away. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Odd question of the day:
Recently I have noticed my windows shuddering just a wee bit on closing. Could this be just because of really cold weather and snow (I often cycle them to remove the fog if I'm in a hurry), or should I just go ahead and order a couple new regulator packs?

Lube it up buddy ... spray some silicone lube in the window tracks ... and run them up and down. Works like a charm. If I wasn't superstitious, I would say that is why I have all my original regulators.

It hit 60F this afternoon as I left for the gym. Tried the windows and they were fine. I'm going to do the silicone trick and not worry about it.

I am going to have to try the lube trick as my KJ is recently out of warranty coverage for the issue.
For what its worth, though, I have had a lift plate fail on a window I never used.

I must admit, knowing the history of these things I get a little antsy every time I look outside and see that it's raining. I am absolutely certain that if I have one go it will be during the heaviest rain of the year. Or maybe when a flock of diarrhea-stricken birds who have just filled up on blueberries is directly overhead.

The random one that went for me was the passenger rear window. I had driven my car to work that day (almost never happens) and it POURED for about 10 minutes roughly 20 minutes before I got home. Yep, got home and saw the window down. Seat and carpet soaked.
