I bought a 2005 Renegade new and wheeled with it about every weekend in the Washington Cascades , the transmission temp light never came on. A year later I put a ARB bumper on it with a wench. Then the trans temp light comes on once in a while. So I put a trans temp gauge on the "a" pillar and the sender in the trans pan. The trans temp ran about 200-220 degrees in normal traffic 50,60 70 degree weather , but when wheeling 240 degrees and a few times close to 300 degrees. Well Heat kills , so I changed the fluid each time. And what I ended up doing was relocating the cooler up and added 4 computer 3" brush-less fans. I did this a week ago and the trans temp in normal traffic is 140 degrees weather temp is 50 60 without turning the fans on. I put a switch on the dash so we'll see how that dose. I used 3/8 aluminium tubing to lengthen the tubing with brass farrow fittings. Just thought this might help somebody having heating problems. funnnyfarm

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Yep and why I'm glad I have a '02 KJ with the in-radiator trans cooler, then looped in a AUX cooler as well. Before the AUX cooler my trans temps never got about 160 degrees, after the cooler never above 150 degrees.

KJ's with the 42RLE trans has a stand alone cooler which does a terrible job of controlling temp spikes.

Oh and ditching the wench will not help with the trans temps but does help with your own temps when she get's on yoru case:smokin:

Most of the time when wheeling I am in 4hi or 4lo and the ****** in 1st gear. Going slow anyway. Keeps the ****** from shifting around which can help heat it up.

Otherwise, if just on a dirt road or in the snow and I am moving faster and shift on the fly (not actually wheeling) I'll just lock out o/d.

Either way I havn't had the ****** temp light come on. Course I don't have a gauge so I don't know the exact temp.

Anyway, nice work on the gauge and fan and thanks for the temp ranges provided..

I'm glad I switched to an '02 rad with integral ****** cooler and plumbed in the stand alone ****** cooler as well.
I too moved the stand alone cooler up into more of the direct air flow to add more cooling.
We can wheel hard 10-12 hours a day without the ****** temp light illuminating.
I'd be worried about those computer fans shorting out due to them not being waterproof...
