V8 Liberty

Well - for serious fast - there is the great American Hot Rod tradition.

Start with clean garage floor.
arrange preferred components on floor - draw chalk lines to connect.
replace chalk lines with welded Chrome Molly tubing
place body shell on top.
Drive

This tends to be somewhat expensive and involved - but gets great results.

Jegs can give you a start here
You must be registered for see images attach

472 cu in ( none of this metric stuff)
should be in the 700hp range - before you start tweaking.

I'll take the 572 all aluminum HEMI,weighs less then a SBC,3 times the power:D.

As a new member to this forum, I want to take a moment to introduce myself. I have years of experience as an Automotive Technician and an Electronics Specialist. I have a strong background in off-road vehicles and Jeeps in particular. I have been watching all the discussions on V8 swaps in a Liberty for several years. I had no special interest until I started using a 2003 KJ as my daily driver, it did not take long for me to install a lift and tires. That is when I realized the limits of the 3.7l V6. I have spent a lot of time researching the feasibility of the 4.7l V8 engine swap and the parts that would be required. After almost a year of searching, I finally located a donor 2002 Grand Cherokee for the right price and decided it was time to complete the first V8 Liberty. Yes I realize there is an earlier attempt posted on LostJeeps, but after 6 months without success and knowing what it takes to complete, I decided not to wait for someone else to do it first. Both Jeeps went into the garage on November 16, 2012 and the transformation began. With the help of a couple friends, we worked on the swap every couple of days for a few hours after work. Within two weeks the Liberty came out of the garage for a shake down test. It has now been over a month without any issues, and I decided it was time for the unveiling. I will be posting pictures and video of the completed Liberty soon.

Why not just drop in a tweaked Volkswagon Diesel motor you'll have more power than you can use. Run all day on a tank of gass, and have that nice low torque power curve for crawling, climbing and general playing in the mud.

You're not gonna run a diesel very far on a tank of gas.

Here is a picture of the engine fully installed. Everything is in the factory location and can still use a scan tool with the diagnostic connector under the dash. I am in the process of uploading videos now and will post links as soon as they are done.

Regardless of who did it first its still a bad ass swap. Nothing matches the sound of a mopar motor except maybe a blow off valve dumpin boost :). My ram had a 5.9 in it and a nice flowmaster and it had such a sexy sound at idle. Any way nice work on the swap and just for ***** and giggles how much did that cost you to do if you dont mind me asking?
