pulled it out of the garage and put the cover on it to protect it.
kid's car is now in. we're going to get cracking on the suspension work.
so now it'll definitely snow in the next couple of days. :D

Just got my front OME shocks and springs today. Should I replace the upper mounts and isolators at the same time or just reuse the old ones? The lower bushings look worn, and I've heard that if you replace one piece then you should replace all of them. If so, what brand(s) and part numbers should I use? Also, I've heard that the kk lower shock mount forks are taller than the KJ's, so if you replace you KJ forks with kk forks you'll get about an extra inch of ride height. Anyone tried that? Does it work?

It actually stopped down there with you? It's been biblical here. I've been aquaplaning going up hills.
Sorry, because that's about all I achieved in the 2 weeks I had off over Christmas/New Year I've not been very KJ minded of late. Yup, there was that brief respite - but we had floods last weekend!

b-t-w, I've updated that post you quoted from, as rather better progress has been made this weekend.

New front calipers and hoses arrived today, I looked for a 'How to' regarding the hoses but couldn't find anything. Is there anything I need to know before embarking?
'spect you've done the job now but as strange as those flexis look to us, there's nothing peculiar, in principle, to the doing the job. In fact, I replaced a rear caliper on mine (which, incidentally, I'm sure didn't cost anything like £75) without really giving it a thought.

That reminds me, have to go shopping for some pads for mine, as discovered uneven wear on mine, so while those on the left have, probably, 6 months left on them, one of those on the left doesn't

3/4 of an inch , but 4 conduit nuts are way cheaper and work the same

You have a dragging brake on that side I would think.

Replaced my rear bumpstops- they were trashed.
Working my way through a checklist of "inspect/repair/replace" in preparation for field season (3 month to go!)

No big desert enduro trip this year, just lots and lots of short ones!

Rear CV on the front drive shaft started to self destruct today. I’ve known it needed replacing for a while… but things like brakes took precedence. Now it’s kind of forcing me to deal with it, LOL.

So tomorrow I’m pulling the front drive shaft. I’ll bathe the bolts in penetrating oil ahead of time. On the KK there is an oxygen sensor that blocks driveshaft removal. How much of a PITA are O2 sensors to remove and do you have any tricks and tips?

Edit: I’m looking for ideas that don’t destroy the O2 sensor because it still works and I want to reinstall it.

If you can get a proper O2 sensor socket that really helps and also removing it when the exhaust is hot helps.

I'd love to see a picture of this O2 blocking the driveshaft. last time I took mine off I used 2 extensions and deep socket, on my 3/8" ryobi impact. zipped the bolts right off. I had the front end in the air such that I could spin the driveshaft by hand and worked my way around.

I’ll be sure to take some photos. Heading to the parts store for a 7/8” wrench, which I don’t have. I’ll get an O2 sensor socket while I’m there too.

Here you go…

The offending CV. There is all sorts of lateral play when I grab the drive shaft and shake it.

The U joint on the front is fine.

The Jeep is developing a few issues I could see while down there today.

A pretty crusty crossmember.

A small transmission fluid leak. The pan itself is pretty rusty and will need replacement.

Possible rear main seal leak developing? There is a little drip of oil coming from the mating surface of the bellhousing and the engine. (Hard to see in this photo.)

Anyhow, all front driveshaft bolts have been zapped with Aerokroil, along with that O2 sensor. Going to the auto parts store now to pick up a 7/8” wrench and an O2 sensor socket for my breaker bar.

Decided not to repair or replace the rear differential, I'm just going to keep driving it until it goes out completely. I'll keep saving money that way when it does finally go out, I'll hopefully have enough money to get a nicer car or can just repair the differential at that time.

No I haven't. I've bottled it this weekend as after watching a handful of videos the fronts seem a bit of a pig of job (the top hose mount) needing several pairs of hands. Its too cold to be doing this without a heated garage and everyone useful is quite tied up (like me) making every second of daylight count doing farm/horse stuff. Needs to get done though.

I've got the joys of cleaning out a hydraulic system after a pump let go, the filters look like a fab shop bin. A few days before any Jeep stuff happens!

Tried my hardest to get that O2 sensor out and … well, crap.

The tool. Not a bad quality one either.

Outcome = stripped. :rolleyes:

Getting help from the professionals now who can torch it off. Running the Jeep to get the exhaust hot is not hot enough. This is no longer a free repair.
