Well, thankfully it's under warranty. Just had the filters replaced.
I read a post here that the rear driver side bolt needs some teflon sealer and cited the FSM. I couldn't find it on the FSM. Can anyone verify?

Also, I wished the water pump leaked via weep before I flushed the coolant. I suppose I can reuse it if it's clean.

It must be a very slow weep leak. I only noticed it this morning. Don't see the trail of coolant this afternoon. I'll check again tomorrow to make sure it's from the weep and not some where else. Will still change it anyways as a PM.

Hm. Dunno. I assume you have an early '03?

I'll have to defer to someone who has the 45RFE.

also replacing the water pump on these things (assuming no mechanical fan) is almost a joy to do, compared to some vehicles.

yup. unfortunately i have a clutch fan and the threads are crossed and messed up. Takes a lot of effort to remove it.
But now i can remove the shroud without removing the clutch fan!

Can't wait till the new WP and clutch fan is in. Apparently it's really smooth once you break the initial torque.

Not the mountains.
I imagined driving it today. I'll have to wait a while before I can see her again. Spotty internet in the great blue open doth make me long for her and it makes me miss being able to educate myself on the site. Cheers to all you crazy people.:party52:

is there a specific torque value to tighten the clutch fan on to the water pump? Can't find it in FSM or haynes.
Getting my step by step ready for tomorrow's wrenching.

thanks.

I take it that's the same deal with the 45RFE ******?

Thanks.

No need for any thread sealant on the 45rfe. Never had in 3-4 pan drops and no leaks from the bolts.

And just snug up the clutch fan nut. It spins in a direction that will not come loose.

so found a problem.
I hear ticking-like plastic sound when I accelerate.
I sounds like the clutch fan blades are hitting something. Runs fine when idle.
Any thoughts on the problem?

I'm going to take the shroud out in the morning and see whether I can reproduce it.

Is the nut from the fan clutch fully seated?

New terminals and battery after the other one didn't check out at O'Reilly this morning. Really don't want to be stranded in the woods :).

From what I observed it is. The nut was about .25" longer than what it had on originally, assuming it's an OEM one. I screwed it it all the way till the WP pulley.

so it could be a lot closer to the shroud than it looks. during accelerations the engine block moves slightly and the clearance may not be enough causing the blades to hit.

I went w/ a torqflo, new OEM was too expensive for me at this point.

I'm really hoping it's not the new waterpump I just installed.
