Ok. So I need to "upgrade" the jeep for my tasks.
dedicated snows
DTTs front and rear. (maybe a full locker front?)

which should I do first? keep in mind i'm still on 3.55 gears and am not sure yet if I want to go to 4.10's later on. if I do the DTT would have to be replaced (they're different sizes.)

tires I could do right now, as i have the stock wheels still and the tires on them are shot. if I did tires what should I get? I'd want the hardest of ********* snows available. ultimate snow traction is wanted. should I consider something in the light truck family if it's the right size? I recognize the ride would be rougher but they'd get swapped on and off as needed and they're going to get abused.

Thoughts and options are welcome.

If you were closer would make ya a deal on 3.73s with only 80,000 miles on them, complete front and rear diffs out of my 2003 , will be removing soon ( or thats the plan right now )

let me know if you need a front axle, i got one from a wrecked liberty with low mileage, ended up not using it. it is like brand new it has 3.73 gears and i just want what i paid for it ($150), you cover that and shipping and it is yours.

thanks. but I already have a spare front diff with 3.55's in it from a stick shift.

now if I could find spare front and rear with 4.10's in already, I'd be moist.

i may be selling my jeep towards the end of 2016, it has not only 4.10's, but DTT's in both axles as well. i am sad we haven't gotten any snow up here for me to play in.

and now i can tell what gear I'm in after superglueing my orange tab back w/ some plastic packaging that was lying around as support.

the plastic area that shows what gear on mine is pretty fuzzy and scratched up. I think some plastic buffing is in order.

I remove the cover on the shifter everytime I detail mine , pops off easily and its hard to believe how much dust/ dirt gets down in there

Same. But now I'm going to go even deeper and replace that bulb with an LED.


I did the whole led conversion in my jeep. Let me know if you have any questions. Replaced the bulb for the shifter, coin tray, instrument cluster, dome lights, and added LEDs under the dash. As far as detailing goes i go a little over the top and remove the cluster bezel, vents, and seats.


2002 Jeep Liberty 3.7L with brand new engine ;)

You know, I only noticed it when someone was driving my Jeep (I had a few...) and they asked "How do you tell what gear it's in?" And I was like "Look at the shifter...oh..."

This is just my opinion, but you know what they say about those. There's no way I'd go into an axle (or pay a shop) to install a locker or l/s and not regear. The labor and setup is pretty much the same for a full rebuild as it is for a carrier and basic install kit. I'd do a locker in the rear and l/s up front and regear to 4.10's. You don't really want a locker up front in the snow, especially with a plow. You'll catch yourself with the wheel full lock but still going straight.

I bought some junkyard axles off eBay so I could build them on the side and not lose much downtime. Paid $120 shipped for the front, and $180 shipped for the rear(dunno how they made any profit?). Took my time and cleaned them up good and painted them, regeared with Yukon 4.10's, arb's f&r(having OBA again is a nice bonus), full rebuild with SKF bearings and seals, new intermediate shaft, Napa reman'd cv's, and rebuilt the front and rear dshaft's. I got lucky and found some Yukon rear axle shafts at summit on open box clearance. Got them both for the same as the retail price for one.

No Kidding..Mine's been dark since I got it!
How do you replace that one? :shrug:

t_d: I hear ya on all those points. it's part of the reason why I haven't done anything yet, as I'm not sure what way I want to go. and of course my 07 rear is "special"

Well I have the flip out coin try. I'm not entirely too sure on the ones that don't have it. Guess it's an ash try but I don't smoke in my car. I like to keep it real clean. Hence why I clean it almost every day.

The 5 Moabs I went and picked up today have had 2 sets of tires on them their whole life. Bought from original owner from his 04 Wrangler.
Had to drive 93 miles one way but worth it
Great shape , came with a set of 265-75-16 Dayton Tires
Sold the ones I had on the 04 a few weeks back.
Now if Marlin would just be nice to me,.........:icon_lol:

Running at 80 plus over and back 03 Green got 22.9 MPG filling at same pump both before I left and got back , not bad at all for the old girl
