THIRD Oil Change???

I can't believe how much more I am driving my KJ than I did my minivan. I was only putting +/-6,000 miles a year on the minivan - and I loved driving it with the modified suspension and power enhancements. But I have put about 10,000 miles on the Jeep and it's just comin' up on a year.

So, today (yesterday, but I ain't been to bed yet) I had the oil and filters changed. It was changed last time about 5,000 miles ago (I would do it every 3,500 miles if I was driving more dirt) and before that, I changed the oil about a week after I bought it (since the shop I go to also does the dealership services, they argued it didn't need changing, but admitted they didn't use any of the proper fluids).

I'm still lovin' the Jeep. I am trying to get new batteries for my mobility aide (a Segway) so I won't have to use the KJ for every short trip around town. Right now, the Seg batteries are not taking a full charge and will only carry me a mile or two, instead of the 24 miles good batteries are capable of. I've never gone that far, but have gone 11 or 12 miles in a day plenty of times.

The service included a tire rotation and the mechanic removed the skid plate he installed last time and painted the ground and welding spots.

Now to take time some late afternoon to go after more of these:

well i guess its not what i did today (as its 10am and no way i did this all in 2 hours)
but oil leak on driveway after a 2 hour drive last week (friday), rear main seal was gone. This only 7 months after putting in a 80,000km motor in (in hind sight i shuld have done it then, but 7months ago i needed to swap a motor and get running in less then 7days for a new job)

its been a while since i worked on a muddy truck, and i hate eating dirt, and dust, and even with safety goggles on still dirt in the eye

no shop light (as i loaned it out) used one of my rear backup led lights (damm its bright, hooked up to a 12v 3Amp source_

my rear slip yoke boot was trashed and went to the dealer to get a new one (was already in there for an oil change on work and personal vans) dodge wants 400$ Canadian, for the boot, balancer on the forward part of the driveshaft (**** that)
i ordered from a local jeep supplier for 27$ just the boot (ridiculous)

also decided since the breather lines where in bad shape to replace and extend.
Extended the transmission and transfer case breather all the way to the engine bay...
this truck does see some deep water, so better safe then sorry

Went to the local pick and pull.

What the heck, why not, cost a buck to get in. Just thought, hey, wife is at work, kid is out visiting.

Poor ole Renegade sitting there, the poor thing. Well my 02 Limited is a mish mash of stuff anyways.

Pulled a Auto Adjusting Mirror out of her, RBQ stereo (works just fine), and the piece I wanted most, the factory light bar switch and pigtail. Never have any luck with the factory light bar (no surprise there). But wanted to keep everything as original as I possibly could.

Now just have to figure out how to get all these goodies wired up.

Nice finds! Sometimes it's like hitting the jackpot and others it's a bust. But that's the fun, right?

I almost pulled one of those auto-adjusting mirrors off a Limited at the local Pull-A-Part. Wasn't sure what wiring I needed to connect it to my Renegade. So left it there - may go back and get it and figure out the harness later ;)

What I need now is the brushed aluminum trim panel to the left of the steering column. My factory lightbar switch is fubar and I've added two switches for driving lights and rear roof lights on that pane; don't want to try to fill the too-large opening where the factory switch was on my original trim panel. Didn't think it would be that hard to find that aluminum trim panel :emotions34:

Bob

Bob,

For the autodim, if you don't want the auto dim D/S side mirror then all you'll need to do is supply power to the mirror.

When I took my rear view mirror, the electrical interconnect look like a simple pcb connector which is widely available.

Yes but have you been doing anything that we would really want to know about?
I ordered four new brake rotors and pads last night and am getting ready to place the order for my lift. But don't tell anybody. :secret:
