Drove the KJ to make sure the thermostat was working fine and it was maintaining coolant level/no rise in temp gauge
All seems well
Also cleaned the cabin air filter out since it has never been cleaned

Not sure why my camera wouldn't adjust to the light this morning but I guess I have a pink Jeep
Although it's probably in my head, it seems like the air coming in is MUCH cleaner than before
It smells fresh and felt great
If you haven't cleaned yours out I definitely would!

So you don't confuse others, there isn't a filter per se on the KJs just a screen

Open the glovebox. Take everything out. Push in the two plastic clips - one on each side - and let the glovebox all the way down. Slide it off the pin to the right.

In front of you is the blower motor resistor. To the right is a metal screen that's probably matted with hair and dust. Clean it off with a vacuum. There is no actual cabin air filter; this is the inside air intake (what makes MAX blow really hard).

I just removed the cowl and vacuumed what was there and that by itself helped drastically

Ok, ill do that too, just not sure how to remove the cowl... :/

It's VERY easy
Lift your hood, remove each wiper arm by taking off the plastic cap, loosening the 13mm nut, push down and turn and it should come off
Next, you'll see 4 plastic clips that you pop up and pull out of the cowl
They're all located closest to the engine bay, just use a small flathead
Pull off the rubber weather strip that is on the cowl right by where you removed the 4 clips, again, closest to the engine bay
Then, you'll notice there are probably 8 or so plastic hooks that hook under your windshield
DON'T BREAK THESE or else you'll have a small gap between your windshield and the rubber strip on the cowl
Lift the cowl up so that you have access to the windshield washer tubing and remove the connector from both washer nozzle heads
Pull the tubing out of the little hooks that hold it onto the cowl
Now, you should have a loose cowl that you can set aside and clean all that gunk out of there!

Had an amazing time Jeep got us there and back without a hitch. Little to say there was a nap needed after that adventure.

On my 04 by that mileage I had already done 3 complete flushes with new hoses and thermostats each time :Bye:

I flush my coolant once a year...new hoses last year. Just kind of forgot about the tstat:happy175:

It's so cheap and easy to replace that I'll probably start doing it every coolant flush now just to be safe
The one I got was a little bit more expensive just to see how it worked but I'm sure you'd be fine with nearly any brand that is rated for 190-195 degrees (can't remember which one it was)

Loaded up the KJ for an fishing trip Saturday with a 100 mile drive to the river. About the halfway mark (at 4:30 am) the Ford truck following me blows their engine. He had 200K + miles on it so he was not as mad as I would have been in that situation. So we loaded up the KJ with 3 passengers and strapped everything to the roof and hitch haul basket. Fully loaded had no issues going up the steep Pennsylvania hills. Got home and the tailgate was all scratched up from one dude using his come-along without any padding on the metal buckle so I'll be touching that up.

I have always wanted to do this. So I talked to my BIL who makes custom stickers for anything, and got a design I wanted... then waited a few days to have a nice sunny morning to do this and... here is the result. It may not be your thing, but I love it!
