What did you do to your jeep today?

I can't even fathom needing any tool to remove the oil FILLER cap. that's just... bizarre.

Now once I needed to do the old screw driver through the FILTER trick, but that was on the MG and she'd been sitting for way longer than was decent or kind.

^^I usually just rub a little engine oil on the cap threads before I put it back on. Even so I have to grab it good with my hand and twist hard to get it off. For some reason the cap never came off easy.

Checked all fluids in the 05. Rear diff was a tad low so topped it off (open diff). Zero skid plates:icon_frown:. Doesn't look like anything has been touched from the factory except the oil so I'll probably change the oil and tcase fluid next weekend, and the ****** fluid soon even though they look fine. Tcase fill plug was pretty tough but slow and steady won the battle. Both ends of the front dshaft looked good. The entire underside looked pristine. I'm guessing it didn't get outside much. Still not sure if that's a good thing. The recall hitch was really well done. I wouldn't hesitate to tow with it. Still need to check the plugs too, but guessing factory. Everything seems to match with the build sheet.

I'm assuming the PS pressure line must have failed suddenly. Looks to be a mess of fluid all over the place down low. Nothing fresh. Then they overfilled it a bit (max hot when cold) so I took some out. From the smell of it I think they might have mixed in some PS fluid so I grabbed some ATF+4 to do the "sort of" flush and swap the tcase fluid.

It has been a little while since I have posted on here due to work and the holidays. But luckily I was able to tackle some projects last week. I got my 5th power steering pump installed. Thank goodness for lifetime warranties. Found out that my rack bushings are shot on the driver side. Going to do the band aid fix for now. I got my LED fog lights installed. I made some custom mounting brackets for my hi-lift that was a Christmas present in my basket. I built a cargo storage box for the cargo area of the jeep. Now everything will stay organized. And thanks to an nice Christmas bonus I was able to purchase the 2.5" OME lift that I have wanted for so long, and got the teraflex bump stops and some hockey pucks as well. No I just have to go to a u-pull to get the upper plates and isolaters I am missing due to my daystar lift deleting them. Hopefully in about two weeks I will have the lift on my jeep. Till then below are some pics of my storage box in my cargo area. Still working on getting it settled just right with everything where I want it!

I went for a drive in the snow (it's only about a foot thick), starting with blasting through the heavy berm the snow plow piles in front of my driveway. I used to have to shovel a lot of snow (actually, I always had a lot of help), but this time, I only had to make a narrow path to get from my front door to the Jeep. It was a fun drive, but it became even more apparent that the tires I have, which came on the KJ when I bought it over a year ago, are not really good in the snow or slick roads anymore.

When I got home, a big square box was sitting next to my front door. I had ordered a wheel for testing.

Before I left this morning, I ordered a tire I like and a new TPS (I will use all new TPS' on the new wheels). It should arrive early next week. I will get it mounted and my mechanic will test the setup for any rubbing. I'm really excited. :gr_grin:

You do know that photo is of the backside of the rim, don't you? I purposely kept it a mystery.

The rims are about $115.00 each. The TPS' are about 29 each (jeeze!). The tire I ordered is just under 200 bucks and the shop charges 21.50 to mount & balance each one. So, if everything turns out the way I hope it does, the 5 wheels & tires will run me a little over 1,800.00. OUCH!

It's not only about decent mileage, low noise and good behavior on smooth and rough terrain. It's good looks too. I'm not ashamed to be a little vain. I don't want the same wheel & tire combos that so many other KJers have. I'd like mine to be just a little unique - and still be fairly practical. 'Course, practical for me might not seem so practical for others. I have kind of a different attitude about life, since they told me I didn't have much time left. It turns out I've had way more than expected, but it's still one of those things I think could happen any time - as in less time than the average guy. So I don't care if my tires won't last 40 or 50 thousand miles. I might not either. If I do, then I'll just get another set of nice tires.

One of my next projects. I've already done it once but replaced it with that garbage blue fel-pro. Leaked in under 30k miles on BOTH sides.

Your valves look clean! Always a good sign.

crawled under the KJ today to check some things, noticed surface rust on the muffler even though its only a few months old and has multiple coats of the bake on high heat paint.....welcome to the rust belt.

hopefully all that undercoating ive done over the past year pays off, its pretty rust free overall

I'm in the rust belt also and am way overdue for crawling under my rig and evaluating the rust. Last time I did i needed to replace the oil pan that was almost rusted through. I've never undercoated but washed religiously; although I'm thinking of having it undercoated professionally soon.

I'm in the rust belt also and am way overdue for crawling under my rig and evaluating the rust. Last time I did i needed to replace the oil pan that was almost rusted through. I've never undercoated but washed religiously; although I'm thinking of having it undercoated professionally soon.

ive undercoated and wash all the time, its bound to happen though. Especially living along lake erie. 2 feet of snow over the next couple days :Violin:

Mine seems like it is about ready to rust through..not looking forward to that job..

The only benefit of an oil leak that covers the whole oil pan.

Okay cool! Cuz truthfully I've always used fel pro gaskets and that was the first I've ever heard of any leaking and never had a fel pro gasket leak on anything of mine....
but 30k on someone else's experience with them kinda makes you wonder i guess
